Fresh off the Boat - The Flush - Review

And we are back on track. Not that the show was really off, but The Flush was probably one of the best outings Fresh off the Boat delivered this season. The episode was written by Keith Heisler was directed by Kevin Bray and tackled some relevant topics and featured a hilarious cameo by Agent of Shield's alumni Ming-Na Wen.

While Jessica, Emery, Evan and Honey were on a road trip, Louis wanted to use the time to spend a guys weekend with Eddie. It was sweet to see Louis trying to reconnect with Eddie, his little panic attacks are great cause Randal Park does a great job with his face expressing Louis' feelings. Eddie's quintet joined the guys weekend and an unknown enemy entered the Huang household. Trent brought beer to the party and caused a side effect no one expected. Unknowingly Eddie took a sip of the beer and developed Asian Flush Syndrome. A medical condition where the person lacks the enzyme to process alcohol.

I was glad they've used the story to strengthen the bond between father and son. All of Louis advises were sweet and it was great to see them exploit this story and combine the hilarious and teachable/informative moments creating a great entirety. Eddie's reactions to the whole Asian Flush story were just hilarious and Hudson Yang just grew a lot since the pilot and is so much more convincing in the role.

Also, I'm a big fan of Eddie's friends. They really kill it with each appearance, especially Dash Williams. He is so incredibly weird and funny at the same time, the writers are really doing a great work with the lines they are giving him. I guess it is easy for them, cause they have enough faith in Dash to pull it off.

I loved all the Louis flashbacks. They were hilarious and especially the one involving some of the asian actors from other ABC shows to appear. Haven't seen a single episode of Agents of Shield but Ming-Na Wen looked so good in her 90s stylig and under certain buzz. .

Also, guest starring American Housewive's Ali Wong and NBA star Jeremy Lin.

And while the Asian Flush was taking a stand at the Huang's house, the Road Grump was about to awake during the road trip. I'm really happy with the writers keeping Honey around more and using her to set Jessica straight. There aren't many characters who dare to challenge Jessica but Honey does and she is brave enough to call out Jessica on her faulty behavior. Nonetheless, it was hilarious to see Jessica act through all the stages of road grump.

Ian Chen and Forrest Wheeler put on their A game as well. All their attempts to contain the Road Grump were funny and their desire to see the biggest peanut was weird and entertaining at the same time. Maybe next time boys.

With only 6 episodes in this season, I hope you enjoy every scene the writers are delivering. What did you think of THE FLUSH? Was it flushing you to the sun or down the drain? As always feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
