“The idea is that, quite simply, he could put on the hood, and he could compartmentalize this horrible person that he has inside of him because of everything that he has had to deal with in the past four-plus years being away,” Amell continues. “The death of his father, obviously via suicide, the death of Shado, the seeming death of Sara, the fact that he had to murder Slade, the death of a young child in Hong Kong — all of these things that he has had to deal with broke something inside of him that didn’t end up getting fixed until he had a do-over with Slade Wilson, who had just murdered his mother, and he took the high road.”

“Prometheus’ whole goal has been to mess with Oliver’s head this entire season,” Mericle says. “He’s not interested in killing Oliver, he’s interested in getting him to break down to the point where he’ll kill himself. That’s been his objective. The other side of that is he really believes and wants Oliver to believe that everybody he’s touched and everybody he loves is going to end up dead or really messed up.”
Trying to drive someone to suicide is definitely the darkest “Arrow” has gotten, and we’re morbidly excited to see how this battle of wills turns out. If Oliver is indeed outmatched, we can only hope Felicity and Helix are able to find him before Prometheus breaks his spirit.

“We’ve all seen the evil reporter,” Amell tells EW. “I thought that it was much more interesting that we see the evil reporter who takes advantage of someone and takes advantage of a mayor who she thinks, possibly rightly so, is unqualified, then gets to know him better, begins to appreciate his love for the city and has a change of heart. I always thought that that was way more interesting than just she’s out to get him, she’s keeping close proximity for the simple reason of eventually outing him and destroying his life.”
Still, Oliver believes Susan truly isn’t out to get him, even though he’s basically lied to her from the start. “He’s never been the best at confiding in people and to say that he’s trusting her and letting her in, I don’t really know how he’s doing that,” Amell says. “He tells her half-truths all the time, and despite the fact that she might know a little bit more than he realizes, I feel like they hit it off a little bit. Oliver putting his trust in Susan Williams, he’s proven right over the course of these episodes because she came into some information, and he even says to Thea, ‘She won’t do that to me,’ in terms of ousting me as the Green Arrow.”
