The Walking Dead - Rock in the Road - Advance Preview
12 Feb 2017
Reviews RO The Walking DeadDear Walkers fans, the long wait is finally over, The Walking Dead will be back next Sunday on AMC with its mid season premiere, titled "Rock in the Road". And finally, the whole cast (or almost all of them) will be together in the same episode, and they won’t stay in one place.
I must say that the first half of season 7 was, to say the least, disappointing. The formula of past seasons, following a little group of characters each episode, has clearly ran out. It was a great to tell the different stories when the group were scattered and had no real place to stay but now The Walking Dead has introduced all those different communities, and the cast has become even more large. It’s time to focus more on the different dynamics of those groups, how they can organize themselves together, what they can offer each other and how they can manage to put an end to Negan and the Savior’s terrific reign.
"Rock in the Road" will definitely give us a sense of what the second half of the season could be and it’s really good. Rick has finally come back to his senses, he knows he has to get rid of Negan and the Saviors to continue to survive with his big family. Now, all he needs to do is convince the other leaders of the communities to join him, but with leaders such as Gregory at the Hilltop, it won’t be an easy task.
First of all, Rick needs to get to those communities, because so far only Morgan and Carol (and Jesus) are aware of The Kingdom (and Tara is the only know to know about the Oceanside), but that will change in "Rock in the Road" as shown in the sneak peek, Jesus will introduce Rick to the Kingdom. And the first meeting with King Ezekiel will be quite unsettling for the survivors, addressing Ezekiel as King Ezekiel, and all the little rituals around His Majesty, but of course Shiva's appearance will be the highlight of the meeting. And here are some teasers about "Rock in the Road" :
- Abraham, Glenn, Olivia and Spencer’s deaths will be mentioned, along with the other horrors Negan and his men have done to Rick’s group.
- Eunid will have a surprise for the group.
- Carol will be seen, outside of her house for once. What could she be up to ?
- There will be disagreement about Rick’s plan, and someone might have an alternative plan.
- As seen in the sneak peek, there will be a blocked road and also some dynamite ! Will The Walking Dead pull off a Lost ? Dynamite is dangerous and can be unstable, but also it can be a handy and powerful weapon, especially if you’re getting ready for a war.
- Gregory will have a new way to call Maggie. For once, it won't be sexist.
- Someone will make the King proud, while another one will disappoint him.
- Fat Joe’s death will be mentioned and called "a tragedy".
- A rhetorical question will be answered, which will piss off the one who asks it.
- Finally there will be some epic walker moment. I have been missing the walkers this season, but there will be one great scene with them in "Rock in the Road". And as usual, The Walking Dead has found a new fun and disgusting way to get rid of the zombies.
- An Alexandrian will make a drastic and surprising decision, that will leave the rest of the community shocked and intrigued.
- Daryl will get an offer he won’t like.
- Rosita will still be quite angry, probably from missing Negan with her gun and getting Olivia killed as payback. And she will express her anger.
- More than one character will ask about Carol.
- The episode’s title is a direct reference to a story told by one of the characters’ mother.
- "Rock in the Road" will end on one character smiling, but it doesn’t mean it’ll be a happy moment.
The first half of The Walking Dead 7th season has not been the best, it felt sometimes too long and the stories and characters were too scattered, but with "Rock in the Road", the show is finally back on the right tracks. "Rock in the Road" is an excellent season premiere, which will finally give a sense of action, of things moving forward. Rick and his group have finally a common goal, a purpose, that’s a big change from season 7A, where they were trying to adjust to the Savior rules. There will be definitely more hope and light in this episode. Let’s hope the rest of the season will be just as great.
Don’t miss "Rock in the Road" this Sunday on AMC and next Monday on FOX in the UK.
