The Mindy Project - "Take My Ex Wife Please" - Review

It's raining exes on this week's episode of "The Mindy Project." Unfortunately, none of them are Danny Castellano [sorry guys, I miss Chris Messina!].

If the title of the episode wasn't a hint already, "Take My Ex-Wife Please" continues from where we left off. Patricia, Ben's ex-wife has moved back to New Jersey to be closer to their daughter Lindsay aka code for winning back Ben. Naturally, Mindy is quite jealous when he asks her if "Trish" can crash at his place until she finds her own. He promises not to hang out with her and they'll obviously sleep in different rooms. Dr. L doesn't object externally but you can see she isn't okay with this. Not that she can do much about it, though. Especially because she'll be in Maine with Jody.

The two of them are begrudgingly traveling for more promotions of their clinic, Later Baby. Jody has been avoiding her like the plague and Mindy truly wants them to be friends again. Morgan is supposed to go with them but he comes down with the Zika virus. Mindy and Jody are on their road trip and she tries to engage him in conversation. However, he tells her to avoid talking about their relationships (probably because he doesn't want to rehash his failed one with Mindy clone, Claire). He can tell she's upset after she comes across and Instagram video of Ben, Patricia, and Lindsay playing mini golf.

Once Dr. L takes the driver's seat and we know Jody's going to pass out because of his drinking, you can see where the story is going next. Obviously, Mindy secretly takes him back to New Jersey instead of actually going through with their university talk because she's paranoid Ben's cheating. They crash Ben and Trish's dinner plans. It doesn't take too long for Mindy and Patricia to get into a catfight over their man. Ben, who is clearly enjoying the attention, doesn't strongly oppose this either. All this while, Jody's been trying to get an Uber but keeps canceling his rides because of drivers who have a) weird names and are b) women. In his sullen defense, he does call himself a xenophobic earlier in the episode!

Mindy storms off without her pal, though, when Ben tells her that as the mother of his child, Patricia will always be in his life. While this is true, I do believe Ben should've stood up for Min way earlier. I mean, if a drunk Jody can tell she's trying to win him back, anyone can. He stays over to give Ben some advice and even goes back to check on Mindy, bringing her McDonalds. Truly, there's no other way to make her feel better. They just sit back and watch some television. I think Garett Dillahunt and Mindy Kaling have such a wacky, sweet chemistry. I missed their scenes and I'm glad their characters have moved in the direction of friendship after their awkward will they or won't they phase once he bought her the apartment! It's time for him to move on.

The following day, Ben and Mindy apologize to each other and Patricia moves into a hotel. Whew! Let this be the end of their drama, please!

Meanwhile, we got the most unexpected plot twist "The Mindy Project" has ever served up: focusing on the other female doctor! Rebecca Rittenhouse's Anna has only been shown as a cold robot till today. We finally meet her husband Tim, who's extremely rich. Tamra realizes she saw him grinding up another woman at a club last night, and tells Colette. She mistakenly records her when they two nurses go to check up on Morgan and the video soon goes viral. A heartbroken Anna doesn't know where to go, so she ends up at Jeremy's house. One thing leads to another and they kiss. Jeremy stops it, though, because he's her supervisor and it would be wrong. Anna claims she read the signs all wrong, although I doubt that's the case, and makes her way to Morgan's. He's too sick and she obviously can't stay there. The next morning, Mindy finds her asleep on her desk. This leads to some much-needed female bonding and ends with Dr. L inviting Anna to crash at her place.

I need for them to continue this because Mindy's female friendships really haven't stuck. Yes, she's great with Morgan and Peter and Jeremy and Jody, but it's the few precious scenes with Tamra that I love. I can see her and Anna really striking a chord just because of how different their personalities are.

What did you think of the episode? Do you see a Jeremy and Anna romance happening? Where do you see Ben and Mindy's relationship going? And on a scale of 1-10, how unbelievable was Morgan's whole Zika virus plot?
