After a couple of shaky weeks, in my opinion, I feel this story was a lot stronger than previous episodes and had the audience asking a lot of questions by the end. It teased us with the title that we hoped would reveal more about Lena Luthor. So, when all the evidence points to the fact she is following in the Luthor name, only Kara stands up for her friend. Would we get to find out if another Luthor was indeed a bad seed?

Kicking this episode off 20 years earlier and a young Lena is brought to the Luthor household. Lillian clearly doesn’t want her there and we will learn the real reason later in the episode. Lena sits opposite Lex and starts a game of chess.

Back to present day and Kara is watching the news of Lillian Luthor’s trial at the Alien Bar with no name. Seeing a shot of Lena, she feels sorry for her friend having to give evidence against her mother.
Kara then joins the rest of the gang who are all there to meet Alex’s new beau. Both Winn and James mentioning a ‘him’. They are a little surprised when Alex walks up with Maggie but quickly hide this to congratulate her. J’onn being psychic knew but, like he explains, it wasn’t his place to say. Winn challenges Maggie to Pool and Mon- El and Kara seem to still be awkward around each other. There is also tension between James and Kara but this is soon diffused when Winn tests both their reflexes when with a cue ball that nearly hits them, yes Winn might be good with a computer but keep him away from the pool table.

Kara goes to see Lena and like anyone who is down bringing donuts really does help. Kara encourages her to see Lilian who has been asking Lena to visit.

That night at the prison, Lena does indeed visit Lillian who says she wants to make amends and reveals why she has been distant. Lena is Lionel Luthor’s daughter from an affair he had. When her mother died, Lionel took her in so she wouldn’t end up in foster care. Meanwhile, in another part of the prison, Metallo gets a delivery which glows green.

In court the next day, with Metallo on the stand, you get and uneasy feeling. Kara and Alex are there with Lena, however, Metallo breaks loose. He has his Kryptonite power back, causing Supergirl to spring into action. (I noticed that in one screen Lena is behind Alex as they crouch down, yet in the next, you can’t tell if she is still there when Alex tells Kara to go.)

Supergirl faces off against Metallo and dodges most of his blasts but she is unable to stop them when he blasts a crane putting innocents in danger. She saves them but both Metallo and Lillian get away.

At the DEO, all the evidence showing Lena’s late night prison visit points to Lena might have had something to do with Metallo getting the kryptonite back in his chest. Kara goes to warn her but Maggie shows up with the NCPD to arrest Lena. I love how Kara refused to leave and thought we may have Alex’s sister and girlfriend facing off. The evidence Maggie has is a video that was leaked to them showing Lena taking a lump of kryptonite out of a cupboard at L corp.

Kara argues with both Snapper and James about making Lena the front cover story until she can prove she is innocent but the facts are against Lena putting Kara and James more at odds. In fact, James really needs knocking off his high horse on this. Once again to prove his point it could result in deadly consequences.
Kara also bumps into Miss Teschmacher who tells Kara Mon- El aka Mike isn’t over Kara who she thinks is his ex.

Metallo breaks out Lena from her prison cell despite the Guardian’s best efforts to stop him. Lena is far from happy to see Metallo.

Alex patches up James who says the Kryptonite and Metallo seem a bit off. Kara is once again annoyed he could have been killed but still refuses to believe Lena is guilty and asks Winn to look at the video again.

In fact, James winds Kara up to the point she is punching concrete blocks. Mon- El finds Kara but she dodges the question, why she has been avoiding him.

Lillian tries to manipulate Lena, telling her Luthors’ are evil, at least that’s what the public believes. She wants her to join Cadmus. However, looks like Metallo is glowing so something is clearly wrong.
They take Lena to one of Lex’s old facilities and, no surprise, Lillian is using Lena as there is a vault that will only open with Luthor DNA. Lena refuses to help and Cyborg Hank appears to persuade her to open it.
It contains Lex’s super suit which fans were getting very excited about from the trailers for this episode.

At the DEO Kara is pacing behind Winn who uncovers a code which was linked to Cyborg Hank. Lena didn’t take the Kryptonite, after all, it was Cyborg Hank. But I still wonder what was Kryptonite was doing at L Corp.

Winn has been scanning for Kryptonite and they can tell it’s synthetic. And it’s going to blow up soon so Kara heads out to save Lena despite that warning.

The vault holds an arsenal and Lillian seems to find something interesting in a small box. Supergirl arrives but Lillian has a few tricks of her own. Lena tries to stop them but gets knocked out for her efforts. Supergirl tries to warn them about the pending explosion due to Metallo’s kryptonite being unstable. As he and Supergirl fight Lillian and Cyborg Hank flee. Thankfully J’onn arrives in time to help. Supergirl cuts it very close but saves Lena in time.

Kara gloats to Snapper now that Lena’s innocence is proved. James and Kara also makeup but I for one am not happy how he keeps handling things of late. I am guessing she is letting him do his own thing but he’s in constant competition with her.

Lena thanks Kara for believing in her, something no one has ever done. Kara is her hero to which Kara blushes as red as her shirt. It is clear they are firm friends but when Kara leaves we get a flashback to Lena beating Lex at chess. Is Lena the white knight of the Luthors or is she playing a different game?
At Kara’s apartment, Mon- El wants an explanation as he is confused by how Kara is acting around him but Kara soon reveals she was jealous of him dating. However, a kiss is interrupted by an imp known as Mr Mxyzptlk who declares his love for Kara … What?! I am sure the fun will continue next week.

While I felt the storyline was stronger than previous weeks, I would have preferred it ending with the chess piece. This would have been more dramatic considering the content of the episode.
Mr Mxyzptlk arrival, while teasing the next story, perhaps could have been done differently and her declaration to Mon- El could easily have waited for another week.
Considering some of the evidence we have seen this week the question mark over Lena is still uncertain. I am sure this is the show’s intent and it’s being played superbly by Katie McGrath. I am hoping it doesn’t go the same way as Lex and Clarks’ friendship as this storyline has potential.
We also have Lillian back at large, a delicious villain with nefarious plans for Supergirl and all aliens.

So what do you think about the episode?

Do you still have your own suspicions regarding Lena?

Will Mon- El and Kara get to kiss or will something else stop them?
