Speechless - Double Review - Valentine's Day & The Club

Sorry for the slight delay in reviews, but technical issues and a slight knocked me out of the regular schedule. But didn't stop Speechless to deliver two outstanding and hilarious outings.

V-A-L--VALENTINE'S D-A-DAY

Maya and Jimmy's relationship is really beautiful and their interactions are so very well written, so this week's romantic roadblock was quite funny and entertaining. Maya's struggle to be romantic and embrace the holiday was hilarious and all her attempts to get out of the holiday were hilarious. She even resorted to Marin Hinkle's Dean Miller for help. I loved that devious little moment they've shared, brings back Pilot feelings.
The introduction of Ken Marino's Ethan, Maya's ex-boyfriend, and Jimmy's ex-roommate was another brilliant writing move. Ethan was so a great play against Maya and propped up Minnie's performance making the scenes even more hilarious.

Jimmy and Maya finding their heat and opening up to each other was really heartwarming and this type of writing is what keeps me emotionally invested in the show and look forward to each new episode. The ending with Maya and Jimmy running away from Ethan with pure joy on their face was perfect. Still, Jimmy and Maya weren't the only once bringing the feels, Dylan and Ray delivered in that department as well.

Dylan catfished Ray into believing poor Ray was like by a girl and that boy lit up. It was so adorable to see a positive and happy Ray who would even do Dylan's chores. I just as Dylan did took some pleasure in his excitement but my heart did break when Dylan let him down and revealed the truth to him. But the Dylan-Ray dynamic did peak once again when Dylan propped up her brother's confidence and forced a girl to dance with him at Valentine's day party.

Last but not least, in Speechless' 14th outing we found out that JJ is a chocolate junky. Unexpectedly it was a really hilarious pun involving JJ and Kenneth, who couldn't brace himself around the fact that JJ is so into candy. Cedric and Micah were exceptionally hilarious, their facial expressions were precious and truly on point.

T-H--THE C-L--CLUB

Speechless' 15th outing of the season was all about feeling included and what way is better than to introduce it via a private country club. It isn't a coincidence that the show always peaks when the story involves Maya and Ray. The way their characters function together just takes the show to another level. Ray and Maya finding common ground in the Private club was a well written and executed idea, especially as they used Minnie's British background. I laughed so hard when Ray came out and identified himself as rich, he was so sweet and naive but with a lot of snark of course.

Maya's snobbish rules and the execution from her and Ray in the club was truly hilarious. I felt really hard for Maya when Ray betrayed her, especially after all his "Let's do something for me" tantrum. But the beauty of Speechless is that the show always finds a great way to come back from the mischiefs and strengthened the family bond in the process. The homemade British session conducted by Ray for Maya was beautiful and hilarious at the same time as the trains created some great background tunes while Ray told his mummy he loves her.

Meanwhile, Kenneth and JJ were doing their fair share in trying to lure out some tears from us. After a little dispute between the besties, things quickly escalated when JJ acquired a speaking board to replace Kenneth. Seeing the buddies playing some pranks on each other was funny but I was glad how they smooth out things and found back to each other.

Favorite Line:
Ray: I identify as rich.

I hope you enjoyed this double review and that it put you in the right mood before tonight's new Oscar-themed Speechless episode. As always feel free to sound off in the comment section and discuss the events of the previous two episodes.
