Scene Of The Week - February 5, 2017 + POLL

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.

ARROW, "Second Chances", February 1, 2017, Actors: Stephen Amell, Patrick Sabongui, The Scene: Oliver calls up Captain Singh
Milo:
Oliver calling up Captain Singh, who didn't believe he was the Green Arrow, only for Ollie to call Barry to help convince Singh was a great moment that worked really well in this episode. The whole unexpected nature of the brief crossover took me by surprise and it was great to see Singh there.

BLACK SAILS, "XXIX.", January 29, 2017, Actor: Luke Arnold
The Scene: Silver swims to safety
Milo:
This was a great scene. His escape from drowning was really well done and a highlight of a spectacular episode for me.

CODE BLACK, "The Devil's Workshop", February 1, 2017, Actors: Jillian Murray and more, The Scene: Heather Pinkney's death
Jimmy Ryan:
This series has produced a couple of its best ever episodes so far in 2017, but it was devastating to watch Heather Pinkney die from a viral outbreak. The music, the reading of the oath, and the solid acting from the cast made this a tragic and emotional scene - one of Code Black's most memorable moments.

CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND, "Can Josh Take a Leap of Faith?", February 3, 2017, Actors: Rachel Bloom and more, The Scenes: Rebecca's meltdown & Rebecca's reprise
Marko Pekic:
Rebecca's meltdown. A very well written and executed scene, as Rebecca finally broke into pieces but found the strength within to dig herself out of the pain and fixated on a new crazy pants idea: Destroy Josh Chen. Tremendous performance by Rachel Bloom and can't wait for season 3.
Laura Markus: Rebecca's reprise.

DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, "The Legion of Doom", January 31, 2017, Actors: Matt Letscher, John Barrowman, Neal McDonough, The Scene: Black Flash’s return
Sandi:
Black Flash’s return was superbly done on Legends this week. There was a definite unbalance in the bad guy camp so far this season, which played out nicely this week with the spat between Merlyn and Darhk building up to them facing Thawne for an equal footing in their League of Doom. Then the three of them taking on the monstrosity that Zoom has become was awesome; it’s always fun to see the bad guy’s side of things, especially as it gave us a chance to see how scared Reverse Flash was here. He’s been so cocky and sure of himself, but now he’s got something very frightening that he is running from, which humanises him as a character and gives their side of the story more weight. The Spear of Destiny has become a fight he must win to survive, but he can’t rely on his powers to do so and has to lean on his partners. That levels the field for our Legends somewhat, at least!

ELEMENTARY, "Over a Barrel", January 29, 2017, Actors: Lucy Liu, Isiah Whitlock Jr., The Scene: The final diner standoff
Justyna K:
The show can be quite brilliant when it comes to every week mysteries and out-of-the-box solutions but the thing that it often misses is the more personal approach and the emotional impact on the characters. It's especially clear when you realize just how wonderful the cast of the series is with portraying the more complex aspect of their characters' personalities and confronting their past experiences, and just how rarely we get to see them with an opportunity to shine and steal the scene. That's probably why I found this episode, about a case that Sherlock and Watson missed and a man they failed, to be so interesting and worth to highlight. And the most meaningful part of the hour has to be the final standoff in the diner when Joan is confronted with a choice and decides to save Jack Brunelle, the desperate father who took her and twenty other people hostage. Jack is a broken man, who worked so hard over the years on his son's assault case, to bring his child some justice after his untimely death. As the time runs out for his attacker to face the consequences, Jack no longer cares about getting out of the diner alive, he lets his anger and pain take over and goes after the cop who investigated his son's case years ago. Eventually, Joan manages to get through to him, asking him to honor his son's memory and warning him about the police's actions outside. It's a beautifully acted moment when we finally see a more emotional side of Watson and the music in the background (Zoe Keating’s cello) only adds to the intestity and powerful impact of the scene. Kudos!
Milo: The final diner standoff was excellent and handled really well with a great use of music choice in the background.

GRIMM, "The Seven Year Itch", February 3, 2017, Actors: Silas Weir Mitchell, Bree Turner and more, The Scenes: Monroe and Rosalee find out they're having triplets & An even bigger wesen saves the day
Klutzy girl:
Monroe and Rosalee find out they're having triplets. Instead of freaking out, they tell each other they can do this. It was such a sweet scene, and I'm so excited for them!
Kollin Lore: An even bigger wesen saves the day. This was just a really surprising and hilarious scene that saw the bug wesen fend off Nick and co., proving itself quite the adversary. Just when it seems they have no chance at all, the creature's victim turns out to be an even bigger wesen, a hippo it seems like, and it rises out of nowhere on screen to bite off the creature's head. Too funny.

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, "Not Everything's About Annalise", February 2, 2017, Actors: Viola Davis, Alfred Enoch, Charlie Weber
The Scenes: Frank and Wes have a standoff & Annalise cuts her hair
Jimmy Ryan:
Frank and Wes have a tense standoff in a flashback which took place before his death.
Laura Markus: Annalise cuts her hair. Also picked by Dahne

IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, "Making Dennis Reynolds a Murderer", February 1, 2017, Actors: Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, The Scene: The interrogation
Max Conte:
Charlie's phone call with Dennis & subsequent interrogation, where he mirrors Brendan Dassey from Making a Murder. Eventually we learn that Charlie got into Dennis' cat tranquilizers which is why he's so subdued. Also picked by Laura Markus

LUCIFER, "A Good Day to Die", January 30, 2017, Actors: Tom Ellis, D. B. Woodside, Tricia Helfer and more, The Scene: The "Unsteady" sequence
Justyna K:
Let me start by saying that I'm quite new to the show, I've only watched the last few episodes and random scenes from the previous ones. I'm really glad that I made it in time to watch this particular moment though, if only so I can highlight just how brilliant this entire sequence was. All of Chloe's friends are faced with an impossible task to save her life and the only way to do this is to get the antidote formula from the poison's creator, placed in hell after his recent death. Lucifer doesn't have a problem with locating the guy but the tricky part turns out to be finding his way back from his own prison, built on the guilt after killing his brother Uriel. It takes his Mother to make him remember what he set out to find in hell and get out. The heartbreaking part, however comes the moment when she wants to stay, not able to abandon her child (again) and Lucifer has to pull her away as she breaks down. That's what starts this beautifully done sequence which then follows Maze and Linda's attempts to bring back Lucifer (and his mom) from the dead and Amenadiel keeping the promise he made to his brother, not to let the doctors move Chloe from the room, thus (most likely) killing both her and Lucifer. As much as I loved the part with Lucifer's friends' struggle to save him, it's Amenadiel that steals the scene for me. The way he fought the security guards and stood in the door, refusing to let anyone come through, was one of the most powerful acts I've seen on my shows recently. He wasn't going to let down his brother, especially after the last discoveries, so he fought till the moment Lucifer was back with him in the room. In the end, the relief on his face when he sees Lucifer said it all perfectly. All actors did an incredible job in that sequence, with a special shout-out to the wonderful Tom Ellis, D. B. Woodside and Tricia Helfer, and the editing and music were done perfectly as well. Sometimes it takes a moment to choose the best scenes for the article but I was absolutely certain about this one. I have re-watched it a lot during this past week and it gets me every single time. Kudos to the great cast & crew for such stellar work! Can't wait to see what's next already.
Sandi: Amenadiel refusing to let Chloe be moved out of her room is my pick, although Lucifer zapping himself and Maze zapping his mum were close calls too! The way Amenadiel fought the security guards off, with D.B. showing the confliction of his character’s motives as Chloe needed medical attention and his brother needed to return from hell hit with an emotional punch to the gut.

RIVERDALE, "Chapter Two: A Touch of Evil", February 2, 2017, Actors: Lili Reinhart, Madelaine Petsch
The Scene: Betty threatens Cheryl
Samantha Benjamin:
Betty threatens to kill Cheryl if she doesn't leave after she makes a dig about her sister.

SCANDAL, "Hardball", February 2, 2017, Actors: Kerry Washington, Bellamy Young
The Scene: Mellie and Liv drink together
Luana Arturi:
I love that these two are finally sort of friends, they are hilarious, strong and amazing together, I look forward to many more scenes with these two.

SUPERGIRL, "We Can Be Heroes", January 30, 2017, Actors: David Harewood, Sharon Leal, Melissa Benoist and more, The Scenes: The Mind Meld & Kara and James argue
Donna Chidley:
J'onn does the Martian version of a mind meld to save M'gann. The touching scene when he realizes not all White Martians are as he believed and he forgives her.
Donna Cromeans: The Supergirl Martian mind meld scene. I loved seeing J'onn asking Kara and Alex to stay there with him and they agree without hesitation. They truly are a family and it was nice to see the love between them. I've missed scenes like this with my "Space Family" and want to see more.
Samantha Benjamin: Kara and James argue over him being Guardian.

SUPERNATURAL, "Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets", February 2, 2017, Actors: Misha Collins, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Ian Tracey, The Scene: Dean and Sam meet Ishim
Kollin Lore:
Dean does not like Ishim. Another hilarious moment of the week sees Dean squeeze into the booth beside Cas to stare down Ishim, and then Sam follows him just barely able to get in. How are they all able to fit! Just way too funny.

TEEN WOLF, "Riders on the Storm", January 31, 2017, Actors: Dylan O'Brien, Tyler Posey, Holland Roden and more, The Scenes: Stiles and Scott reunite & Stiles and Lydia reunite & The final scene
Justyna K:
It was a truly great finale and seemed like a fitting end to the show, even though we still have half a season to go. There were so many wonderful moments I'd love to include in the article, starting with all the reunions between Stiles and his loved ones. I was so happy to see Sheriff being the first one to find him and saving his son there in the end, especially considering how important their family story was this season. If Stiles reuniting with his dad wasn't enough, he also got to finally share a scene (or a few) with his best friend and with Lydia. From the second Stiles and Scott found each other, it felt like good old times again, with the two refusing to split up, and I absolutely loved it. But the moment I wanted to highlight the most is the final scene of the hour, when Scott and Stiles drive away together after finishing school. Although I'm not happy even thinking about these two parting ways to go to different universities, I loved them admitting how much they need each other, no matter what. And accepting the change but still looking back at everything they've been through. There's even a little nod to the series premiere, with the two overhearing the police radio about the body being found in the woods. Almost like a full circle in the story. These two really are the show for me, so after these many episodes apart, seeing them reunited again was everything I wanted to watch. That final moment felt just right and I think it would make for a good ending overall. I hope I'm wrong here, but if both Scott and Stiles won't be back (full time) in the second part of the season, I think I'd rather have this as the ending, with the two of them starting a new adventure together. Kudos to both brilliant actors & rest of the cast and crew for such a great episode this week!
Luana Arturi: The kiss. I was so glad to have Stiles back after so many episodes. Honestly, to me he's the best thing in this show, and that kiss was a long time coming.
Tyler: Final scene. Stiles passes on his baseball bat to Mason. Scott and Stiles talk about their future and drive off into the sunset. It felt like the perfect series final scene to me. It's just a pity that we still have 6B to go which could ruin the moment.
Dahne: Stiles and Scott reunite and hug each other. Teen Wolf is all about Scott and Stiles. Their relationship is the foundation of Teen Wolf so it was heartwarming to see how much joy they had in just seeing each other again. Their hug made the last few Stiles-less episodes bearable because finally the bromance is back together.

THE 100, "Echoes", February 1, 2017, Actors: Zara Durrani and more, The Scene: Final scene
Tyler:
The radiation burns the grounders in the desert. We've known since last season the threat that Skaikru and Co. were up against this year however this was the first time that we've seen that threat in action... and it's scary! It really showed the seriousness of the situation. It also makes you wonder if they really have 6 months or if there's less since it's already starting to happen.

THE EXPANSE, "Doors & Corners", February 1, 2017, Actors: Steven Strait, Cas Anvar
The Scene: The Rocinante attacks the enemy ship
Kollin Lore:
The visual effects in this space battle scene was breathtaking and this sequence that saw the Rocinante unload its railgun on the enemy ship was awe inspiring and fun. It was also a great character moment as we see the crew work together to defeat the enemy.

The VAMPIRE DIARIES, "You Made a Choice to Be Good", February 3, 2017, Actors: Paul Wesley, Kat Graham, Michael Malarkey, The Scene: Stefan kills Enzo
Marko Pekic:
My heart just skipped a beat when Stefan pulled Enzo's heart out. The follow-up reaction from Bonnie was priceless as Kat Graham delivered another extraordinary performance. Her pain was palpable and truly excruciating.

TIMELESS, "Karma Chameleon", January 30, 2017, Actors: Matt Lanter, Abigail Spencer, The Scene: Wyatt says goodbye to Lucy
Tyler:
The fact that he was worried about the trouble that he would get into yet he refused to let her come because he was worried that she would never get Amy back. Such a touching moment. It really showed how close the two have grown together over the course of thirteen episodes.

VIKINGS, "The Reckoning", February 1, 2017, Actors: Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Linus Roache and more, The Scenes: The introduction of Heahmund & Ecbert says goodbye to his family
Sandi:
There are many scenes from the finale I could have chosen, but this first look at Heahmund, the warrior bishop who fought on the side of the Saxons during the Heathen Army’s occupation, has to be my pick this week. I’ve been looking forward to seeing how he would fit into the show ever since his announcement, and I couldn’t be more pleased at his role, it should be an interesting one to follow next season.
Luana Arturi: Linus Roache has been amazing, and even if he wasn't as great without Ragnar, he's done an amazing job, and his acting was on point when he looked frantically happy about his fate saying goodbye to his family and giving his best advice, but once they left he fell apart as he embraced the Bishop.
