Fresh off the Boat continues its stellar season 3 run with very episode giving all the characters enough screen time and development.
Neighbors with Attitude
Jessica getting promoted to head of the Neighborhood watch was a nice closing scene. Her kicking Deidre and CJ out was a great way to finish the episode. The show did miss an opportunity to better exploit Courtney Thorne-Smith, she is a great comedic actress and I hope she comes back for some more funny stories.
Eddie's first kiss mission was a lot of fun. I like how creepy and weird they write Trent and how he awkwardly fits into the dynamic between Eddie and Alison. Trent scoring Eddie's first kiss was tremendously executed and his sloppy second line after Eddie's and Alison's kiss made me ROLF.
Meanwhile, Emery and Grandma Huang went up against each other. Grandma Huang dared Emery to find her money hidden in the house. Emery went all out and made me giggle while he tried to find the hidden money. Eventually, he thought he found the money. I laughed really hard when it turned out to be Evan's money and Emery's face was priceless as he realized he got played by Grandma.
The Gloves are Off
Who would've thought that Heather Locklear would fit this well into our Fresh off the Boat world? In this season's 14th episode we finally met Marvin's ex-wife, Sarah, played by the Melrose Place star Heather Locklear. The rift between Sarah and Honey was a real one and poor Jessica found herself right in the middle of it. Seeing Jessica and Sarah hit it off at the yard sale was a nice touch and Heather and Jessica share nice on screen chemistry. Jessica getting Sarah fired after Honey's venting was so Jessica, the easiness she portrays and lack of guilt in her actions was a joy to watch.
Her later heart to heart with a calmer Honey was spot on, they created a beautiful friendship over these 3 years and the writers did a great deal to incorporate the meaningful and funny in their dialogue. Them later fixing the relationship between Sarah and Honey was a nice move and a great way to finish the episode. I do hope we see more of Heather's Sarah. She was a funny character, would like to see her go up against Jessica that would certainly be fun.
Meanwhile, the Huang boys were on a mission to discover how old Grandma Huang is. The interactions between the boys and Louis were funny and well acted out. I especially liked Evan's question of which disease kept Grandma out of school.
Evan: Grandma when you where younger did you miss school? A) Polio B) Plague C) Volcanos.
