A.P.B. - Personal Matters - Review: Getting the Job Done + POLL

After an above average premiere, at least in my opinion, A.P.B. delivered another strong episode. The episode featured quite a bit of character development along with some new gadgets, neat jokes/puns and a great new character addition, played by Abraham Benrubi.

The current major selling point of A.P.B. is the interactions between Gideon and Theresa, their chemistry is so overwhelming and it totally fits the whole vibe of the show. Both characters are very relatable but still stand out with their unique character features. I love Gideon's snark, Justin Kirk is simply amazing in this role. His facial expressions, his timing just crack me up and make the whole show so much more enjoyable. Meanwhile, Theresa is winning me over with her simplicity and dedication to her work. She enjoys the obligations and trusts Gideon gives and in return, she gives him so much support and approaches him from such a unique perspective. Using Theresa's old school methods to enhance the investigation feels oddly refreshing but puts a nice spin on the heavily technology focused methods.

The case of the week felt a bit soapy and melodramatic but carried enough of emotional weight for both Theresa and Gideon to keep me interested. The show neatly exploited Theresa motherly side and Gideon's recent loss to make them work freaking hard on this case. I loved the fact that they've made the thief smart and used the parking garage to escape Gideon's amazing drone. First off it made the chase more personal, second, it served as a perfect bonding ground for Theresa and Murphy. The dinner at Theresa's house was sweet, Marlene Forte as Theresa's mother Mita was a perfect casting choice as she is a pure ray of sunshine and as always very pleasing on screen.

To catch the thief Gideon's team needed an upgrade and it was a neat one. Those bikes were smoking hot and the action sequence where Brandt and Goss were driving them was exciting and gave me a small adrenaline rush. But more important was the introduction of Abraham Benrubi's Pete McCann. Pete is a former WWE fighter with an engineering degree, a very weird combination but worked perfectly fine in the APB-verse. He cracked me up, I enjoyed every single scene he was in and luckily I saw ep 3 already and grew to love him even more.

My favorite tech girl Ada was giving lessons right and left this week. The combination of Ada and Ernie Hudson's Ned Condrad was pure gold. Such a fan interaction to watch and a neat chemistry to develop in future outings. I enjoy the Theresa-Gideon focus the show is currently is pushing for but they do need to give the side characters more scenes and meaningful stories.

Officer Brandt's story this week was a solid example how to give the supporting cast more focus and warm up us the audience to them. I love that they introduced the pet factor here, I love pets and would burn alive anyone who would do something like that to my dog. We also found out some neat stuff about Brandt who was 3 years in the army. I'm still enjoying the interactions between the officers Brandt and Goss and love their bond which strengthens with each episode. Something to look forward developing in further outings as well.
