The Middle - Hoosier Maid - Review

Hello everyone! I hope that you all have had a great week, and you enjoyed this week's episode of The Middle. I personally loved "Hoosier Maid" and thought it was one of the best episodes we've had in a while.

My favorite story this week involved both Sue and Axl. There's a hole in the RV, and Hutch and Axl wake up freezing. Snow has invaded the RV even though Axl tried to keep it out. "Gee, imagine that," Hutch sarcastically comments, "Two flannel shirts tied together with rubber bands and scotch tape didn't hold." Then they realize that Kenny is buried under all the snow and they have to dig him out. This scene cracked me up, and it got even better when they realize they need to move. Guess where they went?

Yes, they went to student housing with Sue and Lexie. Sue is not happy to see Axl and his roommates, and she gets irritated when they start playing basketball and are making too much noise. Then Lexie and Axl get into it because Axl still thinks Lexie is into him. I thought this discussion was hilarious. We learn that Hutch and Axl share a toothbrush and underwear (eww!), and I loved all of Axl's facial expressions. Charlie McDermott completely nailed this scene.

"I'm a divorcee which makes you want me more because you think you can fix me where other women couldn't. But I'm still dating my ex-wife so you need to move on."

They narrowly avoid being caught by Dan, the worst RA ever, but then April comes and ruins everything. She runs into Dan in the hallway and tells him about Axl living there. She also insults Dan, and everyone, including Sue and Lexie, gets kicked out of student housing.

Now everyone has to live in the RV. Honestly I'm impressed that that many people can fit in such a small space. But anyway... this leads to one of my favorite scenes this episode. Lexie and Axl run into each other while Axl is eating. Lexie gives another speech about not being into him, but then she slips and Axl catches her. They definitely had a moment, and I think I'm okay with that. I think I like Axl and Lexie!

Lexie is kind of freaked out by what happened, and she tells her dad that she and Sue want the apartment he's been offering. The apartment has a gym and a hot tub. Finally, Sue gets what she's always wanted. This story ends with Sue and Lexie enjoying the hot tub... with Axl and Hutch of course. I'm glad that Sue now has a nice place to live with her best friend. And I'm really enjoying Sue and Axl spending more time together. I hope we don't lose this next year when Axl graduates.

Also this week Frankie wins free maid service for a month. She's very excited, but it's not all it's cracked up to be. First, Esther comes to clean the house, but she's old. The next maid didn't work out either. I'm not sure she did anything because she just kept telling Frankie about all the things she couldn't fix. The next maid gives up entirely saying that life's too short. Brick asks Frankie why she cares so much, and Frankie says that she doesn't want her house to be so messy. Frankie tells him that she's just one cleaning person away from having her life changed.

The last maid that shows up is by far the best and makes Frankie's house the cleanest it's ever been. Frankie desperately wants to keep the maid service, but she just can't afford it. This was a different side of Frankie than we're used to seeing, and I credit the writers for giving us new material. It was refreshing to see Frankie caring about the state of her house, and I liked that she confided to Brick about her feelings. Unfortunately, I don't think her house is going to be clean again especially since Brick immediately spilled a jug of orange juice all over the floor.

The other story in this episode was about Mike and his father's health. While his father turned out to be okay, it was still nice to see Mike worry about him. Mike even said his dad could live at his house! I know that wasn't easy for him. This storyline reminded me of why I love The Middle so much: The Hecks are just normal people trying to care for their loved ones and make it through the day.

Obviously I loved this episode, but what did you think about it? Do you think Frankie will make more of an effort to keep her house clean? Are you happy Sue got an apartment? Do you like the idea of Axl and Lexie? Leave a comment and let me know!
