Most shocking moment: Euhm… what the hell was that? I knew the writers would not follow the books that closely but killing Jocelyn is a pretty big change of direction. I get that she wasn’t in the books all that much but still. What about Luke and their happy ending? (sad face) This is going to have a major impact on a lot of characters. Mostly Clary and Luke but I know Valentine still felt something for her as well. And Jace is probably going to feel some guilt for pushing her away. I’m a bit worried about what this twist will do to the future storylines but also really curious to find out what will happen next. If they kill off characters that didn’t die in the books, does that mean they’ll spare characters that did? (referring to that death in book 3 that was absolutely heartbreaking)
Favorite relationship: This is the first time we really got a glimpse into the relationship between Magnus and Raphael. I love that Magnus considers him a son. I recently started reading Tales of the Shadowhunter Academy and was reminded of just how much these two mean to each other. Raphael still seeks him out in need. And Aldertree seems to have realized that hurting him will hurt Magnus. I hope we get to see more of these two soon.
What got the biggest eyebrow raise: Perhaps I just don’t remember this but I can’t recall the Silent Brothers ever purposefully terrorizing the people imprisoned in the Silent City. They’re supposed to be an impartial party. They don’t care about Shadowhunter politics. I can’t imagine they’d spend their time invading people’s dreams. Brother Zachariah sure wouldn’t. In second place for biggest eyebrow raise was, seriously, demons in the Institute? I mean, I can understand why the writers would change the fact that vampires be able to enter. It would be easier than to have to write in that separate room they have to use when vampires come to visit. But demons? Come on!
Objection! Relevance? I’ve been watching a lot of The Good Wife lately so when Aldertree started questioning Jace about his feelings for Clary, I felt the sudden urge to yell “Objection!”. I mean, what the hell was that? Is his life so boring that he has to get his kicks like that? I also found it a bit weird that Aldertree was the only Shadowhunter present. Shouldn’t there at least have been another witness? For someone who wants to imprison everyone even remotely related to Valentine, he sure has a lot in common with him. It was especially obvious when he was torturing Raphael, which was such an immense violation of the Accords, he should put himself in jail.
Questions:
- How is the hell is Dot still alive, especially after helping Jace and Clary get away?
- Is Jocelyn gone for good?
- How long until Simon’s mother finds out the truth?
- When will we get to see Idris?
- How much more pain will the writers put Lydia through?
- If there are heat vision runes, why aren’t there anti-possession runes?
- Will the writers go for a Simon and Clary romantic relationship or skip it? (Please let them skip it)
Best quotes: Alec: “Hey Fray! We’ve got a demon to hunt.”
Izzy: “You keep shooting your mouth off, you’re going to end up like that corps.”
Clary: “You think I should go?” Izzy: “Of course not. No one in Idris is going to teach you how to fight in 5-inch heels.”
