The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

NOTE: The opinions expressed here are NOT those of SpoilerTV but of the Author of this Article, Marc Berman.

    Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this first Thursday in 2017 with its combination of “The Big Bang Theory” (#1 for the night: 10.5 rating/17 share), time period dependent “The Great Indoors” (#1: 5/.6/ 9), “Mom” (#2: 4.9/ 8), “Life in Pieces” (#3: 4.3/ 7) and canceled drama “Pure Genius” (#2t, 3.4/ 6). I would not be too surprised if Bradley Whitford and Nicole Sullivan snag Emmy nominations for their guest spots on “Mom” last night, but “The Big Bang Theory” sunk to a create low as far as I am concerned. The bigger story, however, is Fox, which without “American Idol” is paying the price.

Two episodes of “Hell’s Kitchen” on Fox averaged a modest 2.5/ 4 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m., which comparably was 63 percent below two hours of “American Idol” on the year-ago evening. Even a deteriorating “American Idol” was far greater than what Fox has at the moment.

On ABC, two-hour ABC News special, “Truth and Lies: The Menendez Brothers – American Sons, American Murders” was on the map with a 5.2/ 9 from 9-11 p.m. Comparably, that built from lead-in “The Great American Baking Show” (#2: 3.6/ 6 from 8-9 p.m.) by 53 percent.

Elsewhere, the return of NBC’s Thursday night line-up – “Superstore” (#3: 2.8/ 5), “The Good Place” (#4: 2.4/ 4), “Chicago Med” (#3: 3.9/ 6) and “The Blacklist” (#2t: 3.4/ 6) – was at typical household overnight levels. And The CW capped off the evening with encore telecasts of “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” (#5: 0.7/ 1) and “Supernatural” (#5: 0.5/ 1).

What follows is the breakdown by half-hour for Thursday, January 5:
