The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

NOTE: The opinions expressed here are NOT those of SpoilerTV but of the Author of this Article, Marc Berman.

    Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led this second Thursday of 2017 in the household overnights, besting No. 2 ABC by 16 percent. An encore telecast of “The Big Bang Theory” was still the top draw with a 6.2 rating/10 share in the 8 p.m. half-hour. And it led into typical overnight household ratings for sitcoms “The Great Indoors” (#2: 4.4/ 7), “Mom” (#1: 4.8/ 8) and “Life in Pieces” (#2t: 3.8/ 6) from 8:30-10 p.m. While respectable, “The Great Indoors” is yet another example of the Eye net squandering the “Big Bang Theory” lead-in support on a comedy that will probably never be able to stand on its own.

Canceled drama “Pure Genius” capped off the night for CBS with a third-place 3.5/ 6 at 10 p.m., which trailed competing “The Blacklist” on NBC (#2: 3.6/ 6) by just one-tenth of a rating point. ”The Blacklist,” unfortunately, is no longer the force it once was.

Earlier in the evening on NBC were sitcoms “Superstore” (#3: 2.9/ 5) and “The Good Place” (#4: 2.5/ 4), which cannot compete with the CBS comedies, and drama “Chicago Med” (#1: 4.4/ 7), which always picks up steam.

In series premiere news, “My Kitchen Rules” on Fox did not rule in the overnights, with a lackluster 1.8/ 3 (#4) from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that slipped from lead-in “Hell’s Kitchen” (#3: 2.8/ 5 at 8 p.m.) by 36 percent. And the two reality seasons, on average, trailed two-hours of year-ago time period occupant “American Idol” (6.1/10) by a hefty 62 percent.

ABC featured the season (or series) finale of “The Great American Baking Show” (#2), which performed well enough to snag a renewal. And it led into two hour special, “Talking the Stage: African American Music and the Stories that Changed America,” at a respectable 3.9/ 7 from 9-11 p.m.

The CW featured encore telecasts of “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” (0.8/ 1) and “Supernatural” (0.6/ 1).
