8th January 2019 - Geoff Johns Working on Script

The latest word is that producer-writer Geoff Johns is working on a script that will reinvent Green Lantern but the details are scant. If Johns is looking to the publishing history for inspiration there’s plenty of material — this year marks the 60th anniversary of the deep-space hero’s debut so there’s plenty of of mythology to chose from. But the most screen-ready version of the Emerald Crusader may actually be the very latest one.

11th June 2018 - Geoff Johns Exits DC Entertainment for Writing and Producing Deal with Warner Bros & DC; Geoff Johns to Write Screenplay & Produce Green Lantern Corps

DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns — who went from authoring comic books to having a major hand in the making of movies and television shows based on famous heroes — is stepping down from his executive post and entering into an exclusive writer-producer deal with Warner Bros. and DC, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

“I took on a role at DCE because I love the characters and this universe more than anything. But, I want to spend my days writing and on set. I’m thrilled to get back to a more hands-on creative role. It’s a dream job on dream projects, reaching even deeper into DC’s vast pantheon of characters,” said Johns in a statement.

One of Johns' first projects will be Green Lantern Corps, based on DC’s intergalactic police heroes which Johns is already very familiar with, having spent nine years writing Green Lantern comics and its spinoffs and publishing events. Johns will write the screenplay and act as one of the producers on the feature film. Johns is already writing and producing Wonder Woman 2 and will have a co-writing and executive producing credit on Aquaman, this year's only DC offering that opens in December.

“Geoff is a super talented writer and truly embedded in the DC Universe and its characters,” stated Emmerich. “We’re thrilled that he’s returning to his passion and his roots as a writer and producer. And, it’s even better that he’s staying in our Warner Bros. family. We look forward to working with him on ‘Green Lantern’ and other projects going forward.”

20th January 2017 - Hal Jordan Shortlist Revealed

Tom Cruise, Joel McHale, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, Armie Hammer, and Jake Gyllenhaal are on the shortlist of actors DC Entertainment is considering pursuing for the role of Hal Jordan in “Green Lantern Corps,” multiple people with knowledge of the project exclusively tell TheWrap.

The casting process is still in the very early stages, and there are no talks with any of the actors as of yet. DC is considering whether Reynolds, who played Jordan in the 2011 film “Green Lantern,” should return to the role, an insider told TheWrap. His superhero stock soared last year when he starred in “Deadpool.”

12th January 2017 - David Goyer and Justin Rhodes to Write Script

Warner Bros and DC are moving aggressively on a new screen version of Green Lantern. They’ve set David Goyer to write the script with Justin Rhodes for Green Lantern Corps, with Goyer and his Phantom Four banner producing, with DC heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg exec producing. The new version is described as Lethal Weapon in space, and it’s based on a comic book origin story. The focus will be on two characters: Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The latter is an African American Marine sniper before he joined the Lantern Corps and the story very much focuses on his relationship with Jordan and the Corps. The story was conceived by Goyer and Johns.
