Hamish Linklater has booked a recurring role for the forthcoming third season of the FX anthology, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Season three of Fargo has been rumored to take place in 2010, following the events of the breakout drama's freshman season. It's unclear how or whether it will tie into the events from the first run, though none of the stars from season one will return. Production on the third installment of Fargo is set to begin in January for a debut in April. Ewan McGregor will topline season three and play the dual roles of brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy in what will be his first series-regular role.
Linklater will take on the role of Larue Dollars, an IRS agent who has no tolerance for cheaters. Lacking any kind of moral scale, he believes the smallest cheater is just as bad as the master criminal.
The role marks a reteaming for Linklater with Fargo showrunner Noah Halwey. The actor has a key role in Hawley's forthcoming FX X-Men drama Legion, which bows next month.
