The network on Monday handed out pilot orders to a medical drama from Training Day helmer Antoine Fuqua and a college-set legal drama from Crazy, Stupid, Love duo John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The Resident, exec produced by Fuqua, centers on an idealistic young doctor begins his first day under the supervision of a tough, brilliant senior resident who pulls the curtain back on all of the good and evil in modern day medicine. Lives may be saved or lost, but expectations will always be shattered.

Amy Holden Jones (Black Box), Hayley Schore (Code Black) and Roshan Sethi (Code Black) wrote the pilot. Jones will exec produce with Fuqua and Oly Obst, while Schore and Sethi are attached as co-exec producers. 20th Television will produce in association with 3 Arts Entertainment and Fuqua Films.

Fox's second drama pilot pickup, Controversy, is exec produced by Requa and Ficarra who will direct the pilot like they did last season with NBC breakout hit This Is Us. Controversyfollows the Junior Counsel of a prestigious Illinois university who must deal with an out-of-control scandal when a young co-ed accuses several star football players of sexual assault. From the football coaches and boosters who wield outsize influence, to a university administration under siege, the series explores the type of high-profile controversy all-too familiar on today’s college campuses, as well as the corrosive, dangerous nature of institutional power.

Crisis management expert and Scandal co-exec producer Judy Smith will also exec produce, along with Jennifer Klein (Pearl Harbor), Charlie Gogolak (This Is Us) and Sheldon Turner (Up in the Air), the latter who wrote the pilot. 20th will produce with Vendetta Productions and Zaftig Films.
