Colony - 2.03 Sublimation - Advanced Preview

The third episode in the second season continues to move plots along, but in some ways, it's more of a philosophical episode, than the previous two.

We don't make any advances on what exactly Maddie (Amanda Righetti) experienced from when she touched the box and had her spiritual induction to what is referred to as The Greatest Day, but between that and the death of a minor character whom just happens to be named Solomon--and with the on going teachings of Lindsey (Erin Way), provides a decant jumping off point for the nature of this episode, especially for Katie Bowman (Sarah Wayne Collins).

I think it's fair to say that this episode is mostly an inner reflection of Katie coming to terms with her choice to join the resistance last season. She briefly partakes in a comparative religious studies group discussing a passage from Luke, that pushes Katie to teach something important to Gracie (Isabella Crovetti), before she faces an ultimatum. And if you're a viewer looking for more interaction between Katie and Jennifer (Kathleen Rose Perkins), you'll get that too!

As for Will (Josh Holloway), his actions in killing Soloman from the last episode force a plot in which Devon (Carolyn Michelle Smith) insists Will and Charlie (Jacob Buster) need to leave the Santa Monica Block, but she's coming with them--and the way out, proves to be a challenging one.

Bram (Alex Neustaedter) in the meantime continues to experience the cut throat dynamics of the labor camp, including the brutality of Sgt. Jenkins (Marc Brandt), but soon discovers he may have friend with mutual interests in wanting to leave! A scene between Bram and Alan Snyder (Peter Jacobson) will no doubt bring a little a joy to LOST fans with a rather obvious Benjamin Linus allusion, despite the predictability.

As for finally seeing the resistance, viewers do get a taste of them. And speaking of which, I just want to quickly apologize. In the comments section during last week's preview, a few people had asked about actress Bethany Joy Lenz, whom has been recast in the role of Morgan (originally played by Thora Birch last season). Multiple sources had lead me to believe that she was appearing in last week's episodes and not knowing the actress well, I made the presumption she must be Bram's new friend, but I was wrong. So far, Benz has not appeared. Again, I'm sorry for the confusion or misdirection.

Although some viewers may not be too interested in the spiritual aspirations the episode lays out in terms of family ties, othering, and asking a common spiritual question,'Can anyone really go home again?'. The episode also has a couple of powerful moments that viewers may not expect!
