After the first of the second season's flashback-heavy episode, the season's second episode mostly remains in it's current time period with the exception of one interesting opening scene!
The episode mostly fixates on Will (Josh Holloway) after being injured, teaming up with his former FBI partner, Devon (Carolyn Michelle Smith), as Will continues the search for his son, Charlie in the Santa Monica Block. Not wanting to reveal too much, but the writers do not string viewers along for too long with no results, but rather there's a catch.
Other parts of the episode deal with the fate the Bram (Alex Neustaedter). His new journey both helps to world build, establish the episode's strong theme about how this laboring reality affects children and young adults, but also helps to support the family drama aspect, as Katie (Sarah Wayne Collins) and Maddie (Amanda Righetti) find themselves at odds. Maddie's story also takes viewers to an unexpected place, as she experiences something considered religious.
Viewers are also introduced to new character Alcala (Tony Plnan), --The new proxy now oversees the LA Block leading viewers to catch up with Jennifer (Kathleen Rose Perkins), whom is forced to prove herself to her new boss, which includes one predictable agenda in wanting to find Broussard (Tory Kittels). As for catching up with Beau (Carl Weathers), the jury is still out, but if you were more interested in the wherabouts of Alan Snyder (Peter Jacobson), you may just get an answer.
Overall the episode was not as riveting as the previous episode, but the acting, execution, and cinematography are still vast improvements over the first season. In addition this episode had a balanced blend of action, suspense, family-drama, world-building, mythological reveals, and feels much more like a science-fiction tale due to homing in MUCH MORE on the technology! The second season continues to be a much better ride, than it's predessor.
