Z Nation - Duel and Everyone Dies at the End - Double Review + POLL
17 Dec 2016
KL Reviews Z NationSeason 3 of Z Nation has been a largely inconsistent season, starting off with a very lacklustre premiere. These two last episodes, however, has reminded me why I still invest my time into this brilliantly stupid zombie show.
Last's week 'Duel' put Addy into the spotlight as she went toe to toe with the Man. The season hadn't been kind to her character, as she was largely in the background with the occasional offing of a Z, the odd quip here and there, and an episode of her going through random dental pain?
12 episodes in we finally get the Addy that has made her so likeable. Her duel with The Man raised her badassery to a whole other level. Dislocated shoulder? No problem. Suffocated under water and left for dead? No problem. Addy is a woman with drive and we see this as she kept fighting and pushing forward to get back Lucy.
There were some clear plot holes, like why The Man would let her live time and time again being how much of a nuisance she is to his plan. And, also, why Addy let him live after she shot him? Did they have too much respect for each other's fighting spirit?
Nevertheless, the two fight sequences between The Man and Addy in both the boat yard and by the river were hard hitting and brutal and one of the best over the entire series.
Aside from giving us one of the better action sequences of the show, the episode was also significant in how it changed what we know about the Z's. The zombies are not mindless meat suits without a consciousness. Deep within, they have feelings and names, revealed through Lucy as she communicated with the Z's.

Everyone Dies at the End
'Everyone dies at the End' kept the adrenaline pumping momentum going. I was worried someone would get axed by episodes end, which would not have been cool as right now everyone adds something different to the team.
The suspense with 10K was well executed. I legit thought he died for a minute, and his return to life, thus, had that much more impact.
Despite the episode being a largely more dramatic episode, the show never took itself too seriously, providing us with the occasional laugh to keep things light. Grandpa Z, for example, was some classic humour.
Overall, I loved how the finale ended. These Zona people seem like real threats, that of which this show has been lacking, and it's good to see that the conflict with them will continue into next season. And how about that cliffhanger!? That was pretty darn crazy. Literally, everyone "dies" at the end - that is one way to hook us for season 4.
