Van Helsing - He's Coming - Review + POLL

'He's Coming' picked up where last's week episode left off - Vanessa and Mohammad on the run from Sam. First off, Heyerdahl plays the creepy monster character to a tee, as we saw in Supernatural . In this episode Heyerdahl was just so hideously menacing as the vampire - I hope his storyline does not end by the conclusion of the finale.

There have been complaints among viewers of how weak Vanessa is, and it showed in 'He's Coming.' The girl just kept getting her arse kicked. Sure, she managed to survive by a hair in both her skirmish with Sam and then the Butcher, but she just doesn't have that intimidating presence we expect her to have as the descendant of a legendary vampire killer.

It was good to see the conflict between Dmitri and Julius come to a head. Though it's hard to care for any scene involving them as there is zero personality to either character. They just grunt and talk tough. A somewhat positive of the scene between them though was the reveal that there are 'ancients,' which makes things interesting.

I was not expecting Flesh to make it far in this series shortly after he was introduced, but it seems he will have a large role to play with the resistance.

'He's Coming' was by the far the strongest episode of the series. The first half that saw Sam chasing after his former friends made for some tense, exciting sequences. Vanessa fighting the Butcher at the blood factory was also quite exhilarating. In between we got some good charcter moments as Vanessa and Mohammad learn to trust eachother.

Overall, the episode pushed the narrative forward in an intriguing direction. The resistance were finally introduced, there is talk of Ancients, the awesomeness of Sam the vampire is still out there, and it seems the conflict between Vanessa and Dmitri will come to a gripping conclusion in the final episodes. Like the series as a whole, this episode is not perfect, but it is entertaining enough to keep me engaged week in, week out.
