Ratings Breakdown:
It was a touchdown in the household overnights for NBC, with the Dallas Cowboys victory over the Minnesota Vikings at an estimated 11.0 rating/18 share from 8:30-11:30 p.m. ET. Comparatively, this was an improvement (in household rating) of 62 percent from the Saints-Panthers match-up on Nov. 17 (6.8).
“The Big Bang Theory” on CBS, of course, stood well above any other entertainment-themed series for the night with a 9.5/15 at 8 p.m. But freshman lead-out “The Great Indoors” slipped to a 4.5/ 7, which is loss of a severe 53 percent. Once again, CBS has not put this protected time period to the appropriate use. “Mom” at 9 p.m. held the lead-in support, also with a 4.5/ 7 in the 9 p.m. half-hour, followed by “Life in Pieces” at a compatible 3.1/ 5 at 9:30 p.m. But recent medical drama entry “Pure Genius” earned its cancellation stripes at a 3.0/ 5 (#3) at 10 p.m.
In season-premiere news, ABC competition “The Great American Baking Show” scored a modest 3.1/ 5 from 9-11 p.m. out of a 3.9/ 6 for annual animated special “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” Consider this nothing more than temporary time period filler.
On The CW, the four night superhero-themed drama crossover also benefitted “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” with an above-average 2.4/ 4 at 8 p.m. Effective on Tuesday, Jan. 24, “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” moves into the Tuesday 9 p.m. hour out of “The Flash.” Next was veteran “Supernatural” at a 1.3/ 2 at 9 p.m., which slipped by 46 percent.
Fox, meanwhile, remained out of the competitive loop care of dramas “Rosewood” (#4: 2.4/ 4 at 8 p.m.), which moves to Friday at 8 p.m. on Jan. 6 into the return of “Sleepy Hollow,” and recent entry “Pitch” (#4: 1.9/ 3).
