Ratings Breakdown:
Oprah Winfrey’s sit-down with our departing First Lady, officially titled “First Lady Michelle Obama Says Goodbye to The White House – An Oprah Winfrey Special,” led this third Monday in December with a 7.1 rating/11 share in the household overnights from 8-9 p.m. Comparatively, this was 61 percent, on average, above the week-ago sitcom combination of “Kevin Can Wait” (4.7/ 7 on Dec. 12) and “Man with a Plan” (4.1/ 6).
Next on CBS were the fall season-ending episodes of sitcoms “Man with a Plan” (#2: 4.3/ 7) and “The Odd Couple” (#2: 3.5/ 6), and drama “Scorpion” (#1: 5.1/ 8) from 9-11 p.m. Of positive note for “Scorpion” was the household overnight growth of 46 percent out of “The Odd Couple.” As previously ordered, “The Odd Couple” will only produce 13 episodes in this third (and potentially final) season.
NBC featured a two-hour holiday edition of summer favorite “America’s Got Talent,” featuring various acts from the previous season, at a solid 5.8/ 9 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. And it led into the debut of game show “The Wall,” hosted by Chris Hardwick, at a second-place 3.9/ 7 at 10 p.m. Comparably, overnight retention for “The Wall” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “America’s Got Talent” (6.0/10) was adequate at 65 percent.
In season-finale news, “The Great American Light Fight” on ABC proved it is nothing more than time period filler at a 2.8/ 5 from 8-10 p.m. And it led into an encore telecast of “The Great American Baking Show” at a 1.9/ 3 (#3) at 10 p.m.
Elsewhere, Fox populated the night with repeats of “Gotham” (#4: 1.0/ 2) and “Lucifer” (#4: 1.1/ 2). And The CW aired an encore of “Supergirl” (#5: 0.8/ 1) into a mere 0.4/ 1 for 9 p.m. special, “Marie Claire Young Women’s Honors.”
