The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)
NOTE: The opinions expressed here are NOT those of SpoilerTV but of the Author of this Article, Marc Berman.
-Winners:
“The Voice” (NBC)
-Compatible:
“Kevin Can Wait” (CBS), “Man With a Plan” (CBS)
-Nothing More Than Time Period Filler:
“The Great Christmas Light Fight” (ABC)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown 2016” (CW), “Timeless” (NBC)
Ratings Breakdown:
Part one of the live finale of “The Voice” led NBC to an easy opening week victory, with a 7.2 rating/11 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. ET. The fall season-ender of “The Voice” airs this evening.
Despite the lead-in support, NBC’s freshman drama “Timeless” dipped to a distant second 3.4/ 6 at 10 p.m. Comparably, that trailed competing “Scorpion” on CBS (#1: 4.7/ 8) by 38 percent. Worth positively noting for “Scorpion” was 34 percent overnight growth out of lead-in “The Odd Couple” (#2: 3.5/ 5 at 9:30 p.m.), which will only produce 13 episodes this season.
Earlier in the evening on CBS were freshman comedies “Kevin Can Wait” (#2: 4.7/ 7) and “Man With a Plan” (#2: 4.1/ 6) from 8-9 p.m. at typical household overnight levels, followed by “2 Broke Girls” at a 3.8/ 6 (#2) at 9 p.m. At this point, I feel confident predicting we will be seeing second seasons of both the Kevin James and Matt LeBlanc vehicles, which are perfectly compatible.
On ABC, holiday competition “The Great Christmas Light Fight” scored a 3.1/ 5 from 8-10 p.m., which was 14 percent below the 3.6/ 6 season-opener one week earlier. On the year evening it scored a 3.4/ 5. And it led into a 2.1/ 4 (#3) for an encore telecast of “The Great American Baking Show” at 10 p.m.
In the specials department was “Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown 2016” on The CW at a mere 0.6/ 1 in the household overnights at 9 p.m., which slipped from an encore telecast of lead-in “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” (#5: 0.8/ 1 at 8 p.m.) by 25 percent.
Fox capped off the night with repeats of dramas “Gotham” (#4: 1.1/ 2) and “Lucifer” (#4: 1.2/ 2).
