Empire - Chimes at Midnight & What We May Be - Double Review

Empire's third season is not as juicy as it was: there are too many boring moments, and repetitive storylines. I really liked the first episodes, but now it's becoming repetitive. This is my double review of the episodes "Chimes at Midnight" and "What We May Be".

Let's begin with what I don't understand: why the writers aren't more focused on the music industry? There are so many filler storylines. For example in this episode we had the big mystery about the hacker and I was surprised that it was Andre, what's the point? They want us to remember the fight between him and Hakeem? They are giving so much space to Nessa, that it seems like they wanted to replace Rhonda. One of the most important character of the show died, and they didn't show not even a funeral. It's really odd. I'm liking the Angelo & Cookie lovestory, but I am afraid that something will come up, ruining everything.

"What We May Be" was definitely better than the previous one. It was more focused on the family, and Empire's best episodes are the family-related ones. I really enjoyed the Cookie's moments: she was forced to face her painful memories of her father. I also liked that they gave Freda a closure: after so many troubles with the Lyons, she is finally free to become what she is meant to be.

The family dinner was hilarious, but sad at the same time. We find out what happened after Cookie decided to start a relationship. Her father kicked her out of the house, and three days later, he died of a heart attack with Cookie's sister Candace blaming her sister. It was an emotional storyline, they should give us more flashbacks.

All in all, Chimes at Midnight was a disappointment, while What May Be was an incredible improvement. And you? What do you think of these two episodes?
