2 Broke Girls - And the About FaceTime - Review - "I Want A Boyfriend I'm Not Afraid Of Dropping In The Toilet"

In the most recent installment on 2 Broke Girls, Max and Randy find themselves feeling smothered by the third wheel-ing Caroline, so Randy sets her up with his coworker, Tyler. They go on a double date (that Randy attends via FaceTime) and Tyler and Caroline hit it off, eventually setting up a hook up date. Max then becomes the third wheel when she shows up to Caroline and Tyler’s date after Randy cancels on her. After Tyler points out that they have a doomed relationship because Randy is never going to move to New York to be with her, Max and Randy break up. Meanwhile, Oleg is depressed because Sophie wants him to get rid of his car so that they can buy a more family friendly car. Sophie then ends up selling the car to Han and buys a minivan.

After 9 weeks of Max and Randy being involved in a FaceTime casual sexting thing/full on relationship, we finally got the big fall out!  I really liked how the writers handled this storyline.  It would’ve been so easy for them to write out Randy after an episode or two, but instead they had Max and Randy try everything in their power to make the relationship work. As an audience member, I was really invested in their relationship and wanted them to stay together because of how hard they were working, which I never would’ve felt if they had written Randy off quickly.  This also made their break up all the more devastating as well.  I know we have more Randy storylines coming our way based on the press releases for the upcoming episodes and how unfinished their break up felt, but I really like how the writers played the long game with the FaceTime relationship and were able to make me really invested in a relationship that was ultimately doomed as long as neither Max nor Randy was willing to move to be with the other person.

Although I loved how the Max and Randy break up was handled, the true star of this episode for me was Caroline.  Caroline has only had two major love interests in 6 seasons and she rarely is shown to be engaging in flings and I love how 2 Broke Girls handled that in this episode.  Her quest for sex and the fact that the entire diner had bets on how long it’s been since she’s had sex were absolutely hilarious plot points and make total sense when you think about how little action she’s gotten in the series’ run.  It was especially intriguing when compared to Max, who is usually sex focused and immature, going through a very adult break up.  This switch of personas was a nice touch to this relationship focused episode.

And finally: Sophie and Oleg.  This was definitely an improvement over the most recent episode.  In my most recent review, I mentioned how 2 Broke Girls needs to focus more on Sophie and Oleg as parents rather than random storylines like Sophie’s inability to stay looking fabulous.  This episode, although not directly dealing with Baby Barbara, was way more believable, which made for a more compelling storyline.  Sophie wanting to get a mini van and sell Oleg’s car is a great parenting decision and I liked watching them bicker about it.  At the end of the day, both want what is best for Barbara and this car storyline was a nice way to highlight that.  The jokes within this storyline could’ve been funnier, but this was still a step in the right direction.

Overall Grade:
A-.  There was some important development in the Max and Randy saga, and Caroline absolutely crushed it this week.  Sophie and Oleg’s story was more compelling than in recent episodes, but could’ve used a little bit more humor.

Favorite Quotes:
Tyler: You must be Max.
Max: Guilty as charged… but never convicted!

Caroline: Max, I don’t want a relationship. I just want to break me off a piece of that Kit Kat bar… You know, sexually.
Max: Don’t drag Kit Kats into this.

Max: I need to be alone. Maybe I’ll go to a taping of Carson Daly.

What were your thoughts of the newest 2 Broke Girls? Sad to see Randy and Max break up or do you think they’re bound to get back together? Let me know in the comments!
