Z Nation continues to flip-flop between their serious episodes and humorous episodes. Following last weeks deathly grim proceedings, 'They Grow Up So Quickly' chronicled a continuation of Doc and Addy's zany adventure as they arrive at Lucy's hideout.
The episode was indeed crazy, but with only occasionally humorous results. After Lucy stops Doc from getting his throat slit by her caregivers, Addy and Doc find themselves playing hide and seek with the girl and her play-zombies in a mildly amusing sequence. Poor Doc always gets the short-end of the stick. This was followed by some Doc storytelling time of how Murphy met Lucy's mom, which quite frankly was not really necessary to recap all over again.
I found young Lucy herself to actually be quite tolerable, if not, a bit adorable. She was not annoying as many child actors could turn out to be.
Meanwhile, her father Murphy tests where 10K's allegiance lies, making for some mildly tense scenes. It's interesting how him and Lucy are connected, with Murphy feeling her pain.
Overall, 'They Grow Up So Quickly' was largely another filler episode, with little substance to it. However, we did get some progression to what Lucy has been up to - she is indeed ageing very quickly - and The Man makes another importance appearance abducting the girl.
