Z Nation - Election Day - Review + POLL
Nov 5, 2016
KL Reviews Z NationWith election day in the U.S. nearing on November 8, Z Nation decided to hold their own election. The result? An episode full of mostly painful humour, some laugh out moments, but nevertheless, I applaud the writers for trying.
Z Nation decided to take a break from the main story this week and give us 'Election Day,' or as I like to call it, Z-election day. The episode was really a mockery of the mockery of the real elections centering around the return of Sketchy and Skeezy.
The duo's last appearance was in season 2's 'Down the Mississippi,' which was mildly entertaining, and though I found them to be tolerable then, I did not so much this time around. The humor in 'Election Day,' for the most part, was very, very agonizing, especially in their scenes. I mean, the real elections alone are painful enough, but Z Nation took what made them painful and amplified it ten fold here.
There were, admittedly, moments that had me chuckling, such as Sketchy's wall and John J. Lannister and his stupid Trump-esque hairpiece. The line "these people don't want to be told to follow some jackass, they want to vote for one" had me laugh out loud, as well. Democracy is pretty screwed up in times like today where many Americans are voting for people they don't even like.
The episode was clearly anti Trump more than anything. This was most evident when Addy was asked by Lannister, the running joke of her eyebrows had me laughing too, of moderating the debate. Her retort, "OK, you mansplaining political hacks" was clearly a knock on Trump and his knack for patronizing women and the whole mockery of his political campaign.
'Election Day' was a filler episode, albeit a time appropriate one considering the elections around the corner. Z Nation has always thrown random ideas at the wall and hopes it splatters into something great, or at least, entertaining, which they have done to quite the success over the series' run.
Their mockery of the elections this week was more miss than hit, though I applaud them for trying. There were enough moments that did make me chuckle to make this a passable episode, but just barely.
