The Leftovers star Jasmin Savoy Brown has been cast as a series regular opposite Laurie Davidson in Will, TNT’s upcoming drama series about the exploits of young William Shakespeare.
Will tells the wild story of young Shakespeare’s (Davidson) arrival onto the punk-rock theater scene in 16th century London – the seductive, violent world where his raw talent faced rioting audiences, religious fanatics and raucous sideshows. It’s described as a contemporary version of Shakespeare’s life, played to a modern soundtrack that exposes all his recklessness, lustful temptations and brilliance.
Brown will play Emilia Bassano, who is the ‘Dark Lady’ of Will’s sonnets. A musician, poet, writer, and proto-feminist, Emilia is an exotic and strikingly beautiful young woman. One of the most desired women in all of London, and mistress to the powerful Lord Hunsdon, Emilia goes on to become the first female professional English poet.
