The Middle - True Grit - Review

Hello everyone! I thoroughly enjoyed this episode of The Middle, and I hope everyone else did, too. Sue and Axl had some nice bonding moments (even if he did steal chocolates and money from her), Brick made some progress on being social, and Frankie had some great moments of her own.

Sue basically went crazy this week with her terrible room and her obnoxious boyfriend, Jeremy. I don't blame her one bit. Axl comes over to visit and eat her chocolate (okay- mostly he just wanted chocolate) and gives her the idea that she should be mean to Jeremy, and he will break up with her. Sounds easy right? Not so much. She enlists the school's aquapella group to sing a break up song to him, but he doesn't get the hint (to be fair they sang the wrong song). Axl visits Sue again and tells her he will break up with Jeremy for her for the small fee of twenty dollars. She doesn't want to pay especially since she's family and he's been eating all of her chocolates.

Axl fails at operation break up with Jeremy because Jeremy talks about love, and we all know Axl's in love right now. He also spent Sue's money by giving to the "stop the fracking" organization. I loved Axl and Sue's scenes this week. It was the first time this season that Axl hasn't been mean to his sister. I thought it was hilarious that he thought Lexie was into him. Lexie barely looked at him and is clearly does not like him.

Sue does get what she wants by the end of the episode by finally standing up for herself. She loses it and tells Jeremy that she is not a follower, and he only cares about him and his ideas. I loved that she left him chained up. Sue's always had issues standing up for herself, and in this episode not only did she get rid of a terrible boyfriend, but she's moving out of her dump. Good for Sue! I can't wait to see where she and Lexie live next. As long as her new place doesn't suck food out of the room, it was be an improvement.

This week Brick tries to be school spirited which is completely out of character for him. He's decked out in school clothes and his locker is covered in stickers. His spirit diminishes when his friend Troy joins the football team and feels left out. He tries to talk to get his dad's advice, but Mike's more concerned about what position Troy plays. "Write down the sports words, and I'll try and ask."

Brick's week gets better when he's invited to a football party. He again talks to Mike about it because he doesn't know what to say at a party. Mike says to tell a joke and uses a "your mom" and gorilla joke as an example. Brick doesn't understand and to be honest I didn't either. The joke wasn't funny. But the football players loved it, and Brick was a big hit at the party. However, being social still isn't Bricks thing. Mike says that it does get easier as you get older. I liked the Brick-Mike bonding moments, and I liked that Troy did end up coming to Brick's font club. It showed that people can have different interests but still be friends.

Probably the funniest story in "True Grit" was Frankie and her issues picking out underwear. I thought it was hilarious that she bought panties that said "I'd Hit That" just because she didn't have her glasses on! "If you need reading glasses to see the underwear you should probably just go straight to diapers," Mike tells her which Frankie does not find amusing.

Frankie tries to return the underwear to the store, and the sales associate insults her by basically saying she's old. She tries to defend herself, but the associate tells Frankie that her story is sad and she would let her return the underwear. "Can we get a price check on 'I'd Hit That'?" So now not only is Frankie insulted, but the whole store know she bought the wrong underwear. So then she grabs more pairs of underwear with age inappropriate sayings and hashtags! I'm not sure what kind of point she was trying to make by this, but it was funny.

Unfortunately for Frankie her story does not have a happy ending. Feeling good about herself she rejoins the gym, but trips and falls off the treadmill. Her pants fell down, and yep, you guessed it, her underwear is exposed to everyone. The paramedics show up to mare sure she's okay, and she is humiliated! She freaks out and starts to explain the situation. Poor Frankie. Nothing is ever easy for her, is it?

What were your thoughts on "True Grit?" Did you think Frankie's story was as funny as I did? Are you glad Sue and Jeremy are over? Leave a comment and let me know!
