The Middle - Road Kill - Review

Hello everyone! We had another wonderful episode of The Middle (I think I say that every week though!) I liked both of the stories this week with Axl and Brick hitting a cow and Sue choosing a major. I think the show did an excellent job of involving Mike and Frankie with all of their kids.

It's Brick's 15th birthday, and he wants his parents to take him driving. He scares Mike by flying out of the driveway, and Frankie didn't have fun riding with him, either. Random thought: do you really only have to be 15 to get a permit in Indiana? I thought it was 16. Anyway, Mike and Frankie do not want to drive with Brick so they hide from him. Brick's frustrated that his parents aren't around so Axl lets him drive the RV. After a few minutes Axl leaves Brick behind the wheel to go check on his meatballs that are in the oven and tells Brick to just keep driving straight. Brick sees a cow statue and doesn't realize that he should stop. He breaks, but not quick enough and the cow falls over. Axl's face was priceless. This entire scene was great; Brick is so smart when it comes to school but can't figure out how to stop a car. Loved it!

Everyone is very upset after the cow incident, and an investigation has been started. Mike and Frankie's friend thinks the town is under attack. Freaked out, Brick wants to turn himself in. He says that the criminal always gets caught in his books. I loved that Brick had a piece of the cow. Why in the world would he keep that? Nancy organizes a rally to protect the town and gives Axl and Brick flyers to hand out. The boys find out that the sheriff knows a white or off white large vehicle hit the cow, and Brick is really concerned. Axl assures him it's okay, and that they're hiding in plain sight. He comes up with an idea to offer a reward money for the cow knowing that no one will come forward.

At the rally, Nancy tells everyone about Axl and Brick's generous offer. As soon as everyone knows they offered their own money, Frankie and Mike know they hit the cow. It was so funny the way they reacted and that the instantly knew. They know their kids too well. Axl and Brick confess and the sheriff goes easy on them. They just have to clean the cow. And Brick has to wait a year before he can drive. The Hecks aren't sad about that- Mike and Frankie high five and look very relieved.

Also this week Sue is informed that she has to declare a major. She is still undecided and still thinking of triple or quadruple majors. She's thinking either German, astronomy, theatre, or veterinary medicine. Mike and Frankie think her majors are unrealistic and try to talk to her. Frankie tells Sue that she needs to focus and just pick a major. I loved the way Frankie just blatantly told her daughter that there is no inheritance so she needs something that will give her money. In the middle of this discussion, Frankie accidentally lets it slip that Mike sold his diaper business so Sue could stay in school.

Mike and Sue have a very touching heart-to-heart in the garage. Sue wants Mike to tell her what major to pick, but he won't do that. But he does tell her that he wants a better life for her. He says that he doesn't want her to be on a first name basis with the gas company although Joyce is very nice. I thought this father-daughter talk was very sweet. Mike does want the best for his kids, but he still wants Sue to choose something that she likes and will make her happy.

Sue ultimately decides she wants to major in hospitality and hotel management. She goes through all the reasons why it's perfect for her (my favorite was that she will have a lot of binders), and Mike and Frankie really like the idea. The three of them hug and celebrate after Sue officially declares her major.

Did you all enjoy this episode? What did you think about Orson getting so worked up over a cow? Do you like Sue's major? Remember to tune in Tuesday, November 22 for the Thanksgiving episode of The Middle. No show does holidays like this one so make sure you don't miss it!
