Supergirl 204

After a Super cousin’s visit and a Wonder President, I did think what can Supergirl possibly give us in the fourth episode to keep up the compelling viewing this season. Well, they didn’t disappoint; we are introduced to another fantastic guest star Dichen Lachman playing the tantalizing but not very moralistic Roulette who is running an Alien Fight club. Miss Martian/M’gann M’orzz reveals a surprising detail about herself for those who don’t know her character from the comic books. Alex and Maggie work closely together and Kara admits she may need to take Mon - El under her wing. Throw in a few fights some relationships getting closer and new friendships being formed and once again Supergirl doesn’t fail to deliver this season.
Firstly, we get a bit of background about the Daxam refugee Mon- El he worked as a royal guard and found a Kryptonian escape pod which he was going to put his charge the prince in. However, the prince tricked him into getting into the pod and sent him away saying he needed to stay with his people. Mon also is informed no response has come back to his message. He also isn’t happy he has to stay at the DEO to assess his powers with Winn’s help. What could possibly go wrong there?
As alter ego Kara Danvers, she goes to pitch a dead Alien story to her new boss but Snapper is suitably unimpressed as there is very little information about the circumstances of the death. While Ian Gomez delivers a very convincing grumpy editor I still miss Cat Grant and her quips.
Meanwhile, J’onn who seemed a bit distracted earlier goes back to the bar to talk to M’gann M’orzz and bond with her in the Martian way, Yes I was like oh but it’s more of a mind meld but you can forgive Kara and Alex for thinking the same when he is grumpy with them.
Winn and Mon – El are bonding as well, Winn is supervision the testing of Mon- El’s ability’s and teaching him some earth sayings but he shouldn’t listen to Winn on how to talk to people when he calls Kara’s Mum a 'babe' when he walks in on her conversation with her mother’s construct later. Winn also has information for Alex about the Alien claw.
Rather than DEO back up Alex rings Maggie and they go to arrest the Alien, these two are bad ass together but unfortunately he gets abducted from them.
Later Maggie rings Alex with a tip and the girls get all dressed up and enter an underground Alien fight club. Seems it caters to the rich and Shameless and is run by a woman covered in Tattoos. Unfortunately, the guys who grabbed the Alien earlier seems to recognize them, there is also another recognizable face in the ring, Alex gets to see J’onn’s Martian friend M’gann M’orzz though she is not so friendly in the ring and beats up the guy who was grabbed earlier. Alex had called for backup and Supergirl burst’s in but she must contend with a huge Alien Gladiator of her own who leaves her feeling worse for wear. Luckily Alex and Maggie shouting Police had the crowds and Aliens scattering.
At the DEO Alex and Kara break the news to J’onn, he goes to confront M’gann who basically tells him to mind his own business. She does give him the name of the underground fight club owner, Roulette’s real name Veronica Sinclair.
Kara once again pitch’s her story this time leading with the underground fight club but without a source, Snapper rejects it again.
Supergirl goes out and confronts Veronica but with powerful friends, she won’t be shutting the club down despite the warning.
Winn and Mon- El’s bonding continues, we learn he has strength but not as strong as Kara but no heat vision or freeze breath. He also is going stir crazy in the DEO. Winn, who for a smart guy doesn’t always make the best choices, takes him out and of course things do not go so smoothly and Mon - el doesn’t realize his own strength.
At the DEO J’onn is in a bad mood and certainly didn’t need to hear about an Alien in a bar brawl, Winn looking like crap gives the game away. Kara says he should talk to M’gann and she realizes she has been treating Mon- El in a similar way, after a little heart to heart he gives her a tip to help her defeat her Gladiator foe.
J’onn goes to apologize to M’gann at the bar but ends up getting abducted by Roulette.
At the DEO they try to locate J’onn but only discover his phone outside the bar and the original location of the fight club abandoned.
Kara turns to a source she is sure will know the location, Lena Luthor who despite Kara barging in gives her secretary instructions she is to be let in whenever possible. She also knows Veronica and isn’t keen on her form of entertainment but being a Luthor naturally she is invited. Kara tells her she is helping a friend and you get the feeling when Kara says she owes her that Lena answer hints at her possibly knowing of Kara’s alter ego? I admit this relationship intrigues me. A definite friendship is forming but is it a trustworthy one.
The fight club has begun and Roulette has a special event planned Martian versus Martian. J’onn takes quite a beating refusing to fight to the death as is Roulette’s wishes. He knows M’gann is punishing herself for surviving and she too stops fighting but Roulette wants to entertain and sends in Supergirl’s Gladiator opponent , Draaga. He knocks them both out Supergirl shows up and taking Mon- El’s advice takes out Draaga as police and DEO Agents storm the club. The remaining fighter’s surround Roulette but what would a superhero show be without and uplifting speech. Supergirl talks them round and she is arrested by Maggie.
Outside though as Alex approaches Maggie she is letting Roulette go seems she does have friends in high places. Alex offers to buy Maggie a drink but she has other plans as her girlfriend shows up. You can see once again Alex is perturbed by this and I am enjoying seeing a slow realization emerge here for Alex, it will be interesting to see where it leads.
Kara finally has her story and names Supergirl as her source to Snapper, while he is critical of a few points Kara is pleased she has a 1 next to her name for stories on the board.
At the DEO Supergirl talk’s to MON- El and agrees to train him something she never got to do with Kal – El . The chemistry between these two is nice to see. I also can imagine some fun with these two in the future as Mon- El seems like a party boy.
J’onn goes to M’gann and says he will be there but won’t push about the bond. However, as he leaves we see her morph into her true form, not a green martian but a white one. I wonder if she is the white Martian she spoke of at the beginning while telling her story to J’onn. Of course, we all know how he feels about them so once this comes out who knows what will happen??
In this episode, it was nice to see some sister time even though it was brief, them ganging up on J’onn was priceless and Alex coming to Kara’s aid in the ring. I would love to see Kara grilling her sister about Maggie. I also get the feeling Maggie is a bit jealous of Alex and Supergirl as she won’t know why they are close. Will Alex let her in??
So, what did you think of Survivors?
Are you interested in seeing Maggie and Alex develop further?
Is Lena Luthor to be trusted?
I don’t think we have seen the last of Roulette do
