Supergirl 207

Written by Robert L. Rovner & Paula Yoo

Directed by Glen Winter

Season 2 has certainly been incredible so far giving such in depth storylines and really showing different sides to all the characters in the first part of the season. However, this episode while I thoroughly enjoyed it felt like we were given too much information all at once. Supergirl gets lured to Cadmus when she learns they have Mon-El. We see Cadmus and what it entails with a reveal that most fan’s predicted and an appearance that overshadowed the former. James fully embraces his disguise and The Guardian is the new talked about Vigilante but things don’t go to plan when another vigilante with fewer morals puts a target on his back. J’onn is troubled while still recovering from the effects of last week’s battle keeps getting visions which turn dangerous and looks to M’gann for answers and lastly Alex and Maggie try to find out if they can be friends. Surprisingly they packed it all into one episode but we are left with more questions than answers by the end.

We start off with what appears to be J’onn fighting Supergirl as she goes flying through a wall we flash back to 24 hours previous.

The Superfriends are having an evening at the Alien bar as a news story about the vigilante comes on and James and Winn defend him to Kara who isn’t convinced explaining about her cousin working with a vigilante. I am thinking Batman. Kara also finally gets to meet Maggie, which confirms she didn’t know who she was last week in the bar. As Supergirl she has already meet Maggie but not as alter ego Kara Danvers. Kara gives her a frosty reception which is unusual for Sunny Danvers but she clearly doesn’t like the fact she hurt her sister.
Maggie has come to check things are ok between her and Alex but this seems still like a sensitive and unresolved issue for her.
As Alex returns to the table she asks Kara where is Mon- El as we get the feeling he practically lives at the bar they then joke he probably is off with some girl.

Mon- El no doubt wishes he was but our Daxamite friend is caged up in Cadmus and any attempts to escape are foiled when he believes J’onn has also been captured.

However, J’onn is at the DEO where M’gann comes to visit bringing him an equivalent to an old mars recipe. Guessing it’s a Martian version of hot broth for when your ill, J’onn sees his dead family and is a bit rattled and makes his excuses to M’gann as his hands shake.

The Guardian is on patrol and just stops a robbery but after he leaves the thief meets with and unpleasant end via the hands of another vigilante.
James hears the news regarding the fact Guardian is blamed for a death from Snapper who isn’t pleased with his allegiance to superheroes, Snapper is a bit of a grouch. Winn shows up clearly concerned but James convinces him they need to stop the other vigilante and clear their names. I was surprised Kara wasn’t around at Cat Co, in fact, she seems to spend more time at the DEO.

At the DEO, Supergirl and J’onn have a lovely heart to heart about how J’onn is feeling about his vision, she believes it’s because he feels guilt getting to know M’gann and tells a story about her missing Krypton and her parents when she arrived.

The Guardian has bitten off more than he can chew when he tries to stop his opposition and nearly gets captured.
Alex sends Supergirl to get him but a call from Cadmus only Supergirl can hear tells her about the taking of Mon-El and to come to Cadmus.
A few very big questions are left unanswered about Supergirl’s disappearance not raising more concern. We do get a small explanation but I am sure Alex would be worried she didn’t check in after going to get the Guardian.

Supergirl burst in on the Cadmus location but gets confronted by J’onn who she quickly realizes is the really Hank Henshaw who is somewhat enhanced and kicks Supergirl around like a doll. Calling himself Cyborg Superman. Kara leaves him with a terminator type look after using her heat vision but he knocks her out. I must admit Supergirl hasn’t fared very well these past few weeks which hasn’t made her look so super.

Alex is worried she hasn’t heard from Kara but Winn says she is probably at Cat Co, he has other things on his mind like the fact he and James could end up on the wrong side of the law. Alex works out when Winn starts blabbing defending the Guardian something is wrong and a threat of violence soon has him telling her the truth. He convinces her not to tell Kara as she will stop them. I loved the clip around the head she gives him as she walks away. However, why doesn’t this raise a red flag to Alex that Supergirl didn’t check in last night after going after Guardian!

Kara wakes up in an adjoining cell to Mon – El she explains it wasn’t J’onn to Mon- El and he was used as bait for her.

Alex talks to Maggie telling her to stop pursuing the Guardian she also snaps at her telling her how she really feels about what she said to her, Alex feels let down by her and doesn’t think they can be friends. Once again you really feel for Alex in this scene she is hurting and lashing out at Maggie.

Back at the DEO Alex tells J’onn she hasn’t heard from Kara but he has a hallucination and nearly shoots a DEO Agent he believes is a White Martian. Alex calms him down but he asks her to run some tests as something is clearly wrong. Again, Alex gets sidetracked when her focus was on Kara I appreciate she is worried about J’onn but after the black Mercy incident, I don’t think J’onn would stop her raising the alarm.

At Cadmus the Doctor introduces herself to Supergirl, well she guesses after seeing her in Lena Luthor’s office. Yes, it is Lillian Luthor, who hates all aliens, especially Superman due to him imprisoning Lex. She never admits if Lena knows about her Cadmus activities leaving all us wondering. She certainly doesn’t like the fact, Supergirl is friends with her daughter.
Dr Luthor wants Supergirl to solar flare so she will lose her powers. I am guessing Cadmus used up their kryptonite supply! To encourage her she shoots Mon-El in the leg seems he does have a lead allergy like in the comic books after all. (I guess we are supposed to forget about him standing near Guardians lead suit) Lillian threatens to shoot a bullet in his heart so Supergirl agrees using the device and burns out her powers. Lillian gives her a slap drawing blood before she is taken away and her blood is extracted.

At Cat Co Winn has the answer to their trigger-happy vigilante, he is an ex-seal whose wife was killed but the killer beat the system, he murdered him and now is after criminals like him. Winn has an idea who is next.

At DEO, there is an anomaly in J’onn’s blood that he recognizes and goes to confront M’gann knowing she is now a White Martian she tries to explain but J’onn is far too angry.

Back at Cadmus Kara confesses she is scared, I was touched her first thought is to Alex as always. Mon-El seems about to confess something when someone opens Supergirls door. None other than Jeremiah Danvers but before they can escape he needs to remove the bullet from Mon-El’s leg. The alarm sounds and Jeremiah stays behind to help them escape despite Supergirls protests. He quickly disappears. Kara has to be dragged away by Mon- El as she didn’t want to leave Jeremiah I did wonder why he stayed and the whole thing seemed far too convenient for my liking, I guess we will see in the future.

J’onn is in a full-on fight with M’gann but she seems to let him get the upper hand returning to her human guise. J’onn looks like he won’t kill her.

The Guardian once again with the help of the man in the van stops the other vigilante, Alex and Maggie arrive before the rest of the NCPD and Maggie lets him go.

At the DEO Alex rushes to Kara explaining she didn’t know, Kara tells her Jeremiah saved her at Cadmus but of course when Alex and a team of DEO Agents storm the building Cadmus is gone and the warehouse is empty.

J’onn has M’gann prisoner saying she will rot there but she tells him the effects on his blood are due to experiments from the camps and her blood is turning him into a White Martian. As he walks away from her his hand morphs into that of a White Martian.

Our Superfriends are all at Kara’s apartment the cold pot stickers are soon heated up as Kara’s powers are back. They see the news report of the Guardian, Alex knows but Kara doesn’t. As Winn and James share a look. Mon- El and Kara talk about what happened its clears he doesn’t have her healing abilities or maybe it’s because it was lead but he is still clearly injured. They seem to share a moment and it's clear he is interested in more than friendship from her when he has a guy talk with Winn and James.
Maggie, who obviously used her detective skills to find Kara’s apartment turns up. Alex and her go in the hallway to talk, Maggie explains she cares about Alex and doesn’t want to lose her as a friend. I get the feeling she has issues of her own which are holding her back. I also think these two will slowly realize that they will become a lot more to each other throughout the rest of the season. Alex agrees to Pool tomorrow night and so it begins.
It’s clear we need to see more of Maggie Sawyers back story and will probably get some answers.
Back inside Kara checks, her sister is ok but of course, she was spying as all sisters do. They talk about Jeremiah and Kara tells her he seemed himself and they will get him back. Alex wonders why they needed Kara’s blood a question that is soon answered.

The episode ends with Cyborg Hank visiting the fortress of solitude and uses Kara’s blood to access the computer system asking about project medusa.

Like I mentioned a lot going on this episode, A Cyborg Superman aka the real Hank Henshaw. I am glad they stuck with the comic version and not making it Jeremiah.

Jeremiah is at Cadmus but is he really who he appears. We know Cadmus are tricksters. Is it naive to believe he hasn’t been altered in some way during his time there?

J’onn becoming the thing he despises the most, I am hoping something can be done for him.

The Guardian taking to the streets, while I like they finally have given James something to do I don’t want Supergirl to become too much an ensemble show like the other CW shows. It’s called Supergirl, not Superfriends please get the focus back to her more.

Romance in the air for both Kara and Alex, yes, I think it’s time Alex found love and her journey is really something wonderful to see onscreen but Kara needs to focus on being her after all wasn’t it the reason she split from James.

Cadmus, the name taken from the Greek monster slayer, have a mission is to wipe out all Aliens on Earth. Cadmus are looking for a way to make that a reality and from the looks of next week’s episode, they could succeed.

So, what were your thoughts about this week’s episode

Is Jeremiah as he appears?

Cyborg Superman reveal as you expected?

How do you feel about Kara and Mon-El romance and what was he about to confess?

Can Alex and Maggie just be friends?

What is Medusa?

Are you excited for the crossover next week?
