After another mini break caused by the Country Music Awards Speechless returned with its 6th and very strong outing. The episode written by Danny Chun & Mark Kunerth was directed by Phil Traill revealed a long looming mystery and included the guest appearance of Hart Of Dixie sweetheart McKaley Miller as a love interest for JJ.
Anger Issues: Dylan`s obvious anger issues finally escalated and needed to be handled. Jimmy was the perfect choice to contrast Dylan`s angry mind so he decided it was bringing the angry daughter to angry job to show Dylan how real stress looks like. Dylan interpreteted Jimmy's punch bag attitued as week and continued to rebel.
Not the best story of this episode with some enjoyanle moments. While Dylan`s smart harsh language worked at moments, her being offensive and insulting towards Jimmy was a turn-off. I hope we get more depth with Dylan`s character in the future episodes, she seems very random in some actions. All the other characters have much more substance and the stories connected to them feel nore authentic and flow better in the whole picture.
Dylan: Attention everyone! Shut up, you are all terrible people with the saddest tan line I`ve every seen come from any Hawaiian airline.
Jimmy showing Dylan how he gets rid of the stress was a sweet moment, I always enjoy these simple scenes that strengthen the bond between family members. BTW Kyla Kenedy has some mighty pipes, those screams were quite impressive.
JJ has a Crush: JJ and Kenneth were assigned to help Claire, a girl with 2 broken legs who was wheelchair bound for the next couple of weeks. During the time they`ve spent together, JJ developed a crush on her and Kenneth turned from Aide to Wingman in just under a second. Later on, JJ was disappointed when a supposed date turned out to be just a study session with other kids.
This was a very interesting choice of story this early in a season. The writing was so on point and it was nice for them to give us insight into JJ`s state of mind and how he thinks girls see him. He is aware of his disabilities and doesn`t want to be pitied by girls. The support Kenneth gave him in these moments was also really well executed. I look forward to seeing where they intend to go with these types of stories for JJ in the future.
Special kudos to McKaley Miller, she was really funny and seeing her soften up towards JJ and forming a bond with him was well viable and well transported on screen. The physical therapy session was another highlight. The therapist was balancing well with the chemistry between the characters and delivered some sweet laughs alongside.

The writers did a great job in exploiting Ray`s awkwardness with the conversation starters and his need to feel seen by others. Maya`s overprotectiveness suited this story very well. It was so nice to see her side with Ray and cover for him, cause she knew it would benefit Ray more to keep the secret. I lmao when Dylan came in and ruined their cover up by identifying Ray`s nipple in front of the principle.
I really hope Marin Hinkle`s character sticks around, even though she got cast in another pilot. Her interactions with the DiMeos are simply hilarious!
