The show starts on the beach bon fire party. Ray, a man in his early twenties looks sick or really anxious, he brings something to his buddy in paper bag.

The scene ends and we cut to someone running in the woods. A man is running and looking for help. Uh oh, the dead body belongs to Ray.

Meanwhile, at casa de Rosie, Kayla and Rosie are playing a basketball video game. Villa stops over. Is she jealous or happy for Rosie?

Interesting, Rosie has convinced Elena’s mother to exhume her daughter’s body. Elena was a murder victim in the case that Gerald caught. Her exhumation could lead to Gerald’s murder charge being overturned.

Rosie is thinking about movie Tawnya and Kayla in full time. Villa asks Rosie if he’s really ready for this big life change. He thinks he’s ready.

Over at the crime scene, we see Ray’s body on the forest floor. He was attacked from behind. Injuries to the back of his head.

Slade is there in place of Hornstock. As soon as he sees the victim, he gets weird. Like, real weird.

The victim’s wallet was stolen. It looks like he has ties to a gang, due to the brown bandana tied to his pants.

The witness who found the body is shaken up. He heard a loud scream and then he found the victim’s body. The witness says that he isn’t good with faces. He just knows what he heard.

Rosewood has a hunch. Turns out his hunch was correct. The witness suffers from prosopagnosia, face blindness.

Slade isn’t being very nice. He seems annoyed with the witness. What is Slade’s connection to the victim? Was he at the same boy’s home Slade lived at as a child?

Rosewood points out that even though the witness might not have been able to see the killer’s face, the killer definitely saw him. Uh oh!

Rosie and Villa are talking to the witness. Turns out he suffered a stroke about a year ago, which resulted in prosopagnosia. He also has diabetes, which Rosie thinks caused the stroke. The witness, Ben, is or used to be a sports photographer, he specialized in faces. Poor guy!

Rosie and Villa want Ben to focus on his other senses and what he might have picked up when he bumped into the killer and the victim. He said he heard a rattling, perhaps from a necklace or bracelet. He also noticed that the killer was limping. Villa says that they are going to keep Ben at the station for a while, in order to keep him safe. I wonder if that will piss off Slade?

Pippy, Mitchie, and TMI are at the lab with Mrs. Rosewood. Pippy wants to know what happens if Elena’s exhumation proves that Gerald didn’t kill her. She wants to know what happens next for Gerald and her mother. Donna tells her she is only focused on getting Gerald exonerated.

Rosie pops up at the lab. He has a variety of weapons. Wonder which one killed Ray? He wants the team to run tests on the victim’s body. But, being Rosie, he looks at the victim’s palm and says, “Got it,” then leaves. Because, Rosewood.

Villa is in Slade’s office. They have the victim’s identity, Ricky, who was a member of the Carol City Syndicate. He’s a felon and has multiple narcotic charges.

Slade tells Villa to close the door. Uh oh!

He admits that Ricky was also at the same boy’s home that he lived at as a boy. Called it! He also said that Ricky hadn’t been to jail for 18 months. Slade thinks that something in Ricky’s present life was the cause of his death, not his possibly previous gang banger ways. He wants to make things right for Ricky. He’s torn up about this case.

Villa and Slade head to Ricky's place. His apartment is filled with potential drug paraphernalia. Rosie says that Ricky was a chef. So, maybe no drugs? There are scuff marks on the floor. Signs of a struggle.

Ricky’s boys are outside and calling for him. One of them as a paper bag, same as the one Ricky showed the guy on the beach the other day.

Slade gets real with one of Ricky’s friends. Tells him that he grew up at the same boy’s home, St. Mel’s. He even points out his name and the year he went there, which is scratched on the wall.

Turns out Ricky used to cook for him and his friend/s before they would take his food truck out. His friend was his sous chef and he doesn’t have anything harmful in the paper bag, he has a fancy cooking tool.

Oh, wait! Is that the guy from the beach? Might be! He said that he saw Ricky yesterday and that he didn’t look good, he looked nauseous or something.

Back at HQ, Ben, the witness and Rosie are talking. Rosie hooks Ben up, because Rosie is the best.

Villa has a food truck app. They need to find Ricky’s food truck and find the murderer. Villa wants Ben to help. Slade thinks it’s a bad move. Rosie points out that he can use his other senses and might be able to help.

The team and Ben are checking out the food trucks. Rosie tells him that he is with the “dream team.” Rosie is the best!

Ooh! Ben hears a familiar voice; it could belong to the killer.

Slade hops up into the food truck while Rosie and Villa talk to the potential killer. The guy says he wasn’t involved in Ricky’s murder, but he admits to being at the victim’s apartment before. Interesting… Slade makes a big discovery! The food truck was serving illegal drug-laced desserts! No wonder the line was so long!

Rosie, Villa, and Slade are interrogating the suspect. OH THE WRITING! THE WRITING ON THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD! The suspect has been to the ER three times before for being shot. Every single time, he was shot in the back. Rosie laughs and jokes that he literally got a cap busted in his ass. Slade asks if he’s been shot at repeatedly from behind because he was running away like a little bitch. Dang, Slade!

Slade has a theory and he’s being a real hard ass with the suspect. The suspect more or less ignores Slade and asks for a lawyer.

Dwayne, the suspect, is going to get out. They only have the drug charges to hold him on.

Slade shouts to the entire bullpen that he wants Dwayne in jail ASAP!

Tawnya calls Rosie. Kayla ditched school. Rosie says that he can go look for Kayla. LOL! Rosie shows up to the park where Kayla likes to play basketball in Blue Thunder, which I believe is Mitchie’s? Can someone remind me? Rosie finds Kayla. Kayla got into a fight at school because her friend was getting bullied. She’s afraid that she is going to get expelled. Kayla agrees to go to school with Rosie and Tawnya to talk to the principal.

Rosie brings Kayla to the lab. He bought her a gaming system as a present for being honest. I’m pretty sure Tawnya is going to feel a bit differently. But, we’ll see.

Pippy squeals when she sees Kayla and tells her that she can call her Pippy or Ti Ti. Pippy is going to take Kayla to eat. Again, Tawnya might be mad at the way the situation is being handled.

It’s possible that the victim was poisoned with something. Might explain why he looked sick when he saw his friend the night before at the beach.

Villa got a hit on Ricky’s truck.

Rosie, Villa and several police cars pull the food truck over. Villa gives Rosie a hard time over driving Blue Thunder.

Someone is holding a knife in the back of the food truck. She drops it when Villa points her gun at her.

Slade and Villa are interrogating the woman who was holding the knife in the back of the truck. She looks terrified and admits that Ricky was her boyfriend.

Rosie is working his magic with Ben. I’m worried about Ben. He doesn’t look healthy. Man, I hope he doesn’t die due to complications of diabetes. That could really mess with Rosie’s head. Especially if he missed a diagnosis.

Ricky’s girlfriend tells them that Ricky went to the store to get something for the nausea, but he never came back.

They found rhubarb leaves in Ricky’s stomach. Uh oh.

Ricky’s girlfriend says that he had met with a famous chef who runs a pop up restaurant. She says that she’s a racist and that she screwed Ricky over.

Donna Rosewood heads to Magic City Labs. She’s worried that Rosie is moving too fast, as evidence of Kayla being at the lab. Rosie brings Tawnya to the lab. She picks up Kayla and her tone says that she is not playing! She gives Rosie back his keys and says that they are going to take the bus. Does anyone else smell the ex-husband lurking or is Tawnya getting cold feet?

Before Rosie has to explain Tawnya’s strange behavior, Villa calls, they found the pop up restaurant.

Rosie heads out, his car, the music, this show is so on point! Points to everyone involved!

Simone Killbore, the chef, has a history of being pretentious. When Rosie and Villa approach her in the pop up, she turns around like she wants to run. Good thing they brought back up!

Rosie, Villa, and Slade are interrogating Chef Killbore. She’s a terrible person and doesn’t care about the people who help her business thrive. She’s also racist. Ugh! What a nasty person! Then, if we already didn’t like her enough, she admits to putting rhubarb leaves, which she knew Ricky was allergic to, into his curry. She said she just did it to make him nauseous, not to kill him.

She admits that she Ricky were going to open up a place together, but things got sour.

Simone has an alibi. She was out fishing. Yuck. Turns out that her alibi has been confirmed.

Ben comes back to the station. Rosie has a lightbulb moment. Ben is allergic to peanuts and he has had a bad reaction on his arm, in the same place the murderer grabbed him and threw him on the ground. Rosie thinks he know what happened!

I’m weak! Rosie has Dewayne cuffed outside of his apartment. Dewayne says, “You got me cuffed out here like Marilyn Manson.” Rosie is all, “Don’t you mean Charles Manson?” Dewayne is like, “Yeah, Charles Marilyn.” I love the writer’s sense of humor on this show!

They find the weapon at Dewayne’s place. He’s done!

Back at Rosie’s place, Tawyna explains her strange behavior earlier in the day. She says that seeing Kayla with Rosie’s family was a little bit too much too fast. Rosie understands, but says that his family is a big part of his life, so they are always going to be there. Tawnya gets it, but she explains that rushing things has gotten her into trouble in the past. He tells her that it might be best if she and her daughter get their own place and they slow down the relationship. Rosie tells her it’s special and that they shouldn’t rush it and ruin it. Tawnya is on board. It’s interesting to watch this scene play out, because in a lot of relationships, it wouldn’t have worked so well, but I think Rosie and Tawnya handled it perfectly. What about you?

Ooh, Rosie has another lightbulb moment! He holds up Tawyna’s arms and repeats, “Guilty as charged.” Uh oh… Ben has a rash on his arms in the same place! Does that mean that Ben is the bad guy in this situation? That would be terrible!

Rosie rushes off to the lab to show Villa and Slade what happened. He demonstrates by hitting a fake body (I hope) with a tire iron. The blood splatter pattern is the same as the blood spatter on Ben’s shirt the night he “found” the victim in the woods.

Villa, Rosie, and Slade are interrogating Ben. Slade loses his mind and puts Ben in a choke hold. Slade is pissed. This is personal.

Ben killed Ricky. He says he never meant for it to go that far.

Aw, Slade has the same necklace as Ricky had on the night of his murder. He tells Villa a story about how a priest saved him from stealing a car. He says that someone has always kept him from taking a step in the wrong direction.

Villa credits her ability to stay on the good side to her mother, brother, Eddie, and even Rosie. Aw, Villa is the best! Her character is just so likeable from all aspects! Points to Todd Harthan for creating such a fantastic character!

Rosie comes home to everyone in his house. Literally, everyone is there and it is fantastic! I love that the family is all together and enjoying a meal. Tawnya called to apologize to Pippy and Donna for her behavior earlier. They decided to come together with an awesome family dinner. I love this show!

Eek! Tomorrow is a big day. The exhumation is happening tomorrow. Donna is really worried. Rosie tells her not to worry. There might be some surprises, but nothing they can’t handle. Donna tells Rosie that she really cares about Gerald.

The next day, at the cemetery, Rosie, Villa, Pippy, and Donna are there for the exhumation. Rosie looks into the casket with disbelief. When asked what’s wrong, he tells them that the body is missing!

End of episode.

My Thoughts:

THAT ENDING THOUGH! I didn’t see that coming! Just like I didn’t see Ben being the murderer! Todd Harthan and the writing crew totally slayed this episode!

Let’s be honest, this show is a total gold mine! Everything from the directing, to the producing, to the acting, it’s all completely on point!

I’m really enjoying Tawnya and Rosie’s storyline. Kayla’s character really helps keep everything grounded as well.

The team, now led by Slade, is really starting to click together. Slade’s character brings a lot of complexity to the show. His background is really moving and explains a lot of his behavior.

You know what I loved most about this episode? Instead of the traditional stereotypical gangbanger, Ricky, the victim, was doing something good with his life. He wasn’t portrayed in the typical way and he wasn’t made to be a bad guy. Rosewood really handles diversity well and the writers do not play into stereotypes.
