EXCLUSIVE: Cinemax has picked up Rellik, a six-episode limited series from The Missing team of creators Harry and Jack Williams and producer New Pictures. The project was commissioned by BBC One last year.
Written by the Williams brothers, Rellik is a serial killer story told backwards. That explains the unusual title for the series, which is “Killer” spelled backwards. While the killer will be revealed at the beginning, the thriller drama is said to offer a surprising take as it traces back the killer’s story. Helmer Sam Miller, an Emmy nominee for his work on Luther, will direct.
Harry and Jack Williams executive produce through their Two Brothers Pictures along with New Pictures principals Willow Grylls, Charlie Pattinson and Elaine Pyke as well as BBC’s Stephen Wright. All3Media, which bought New Pictures earlier this year, handles international distribution.
Like the well-received mystery The Missing, which is wrapping its eight-episode second season on BBC1 tomorrow, Rellik is designed for a limited run, with a possibility for future installments.
