Ratings Breakdown:
CBS remains the network to beat this season in the Tuesday overnights, besting No. 2 NBC by 44 percent in households last night. But the home of “The Voice” and “This is Us” will dominate in adults 18-49 (and all the key demos).
Competing against each other, “Bull” on CBS and aforementioned “This Is Us” on NBC remained bona fide new hits. “Bull” topped the 9 p.m. hour, with a 7.5 rating/12 share in the household overnights. Comparably, “Bull” held a comfortable 82 percent of its “NCIS” lead-in (#1 for the night: 9.1/14 at 8 p.m.). And “This Is Us” scored a solid second-place 6.4/10, which completely held its “The Voice” lead-in (#2: 6.3/10 at 8 p.m.) and built from the debut of year-time period occupant “Chicago Med” (5.7/ 9 on 11/17/15) by 12 percent.
Also on the two nets was “NCIS: New Orleans” (#1: 5.8/10) and “Chicago PD” (#2: 4.4/ 8), which remain respectable options in the Tuesday 10 p.m. hour. ABC countered in the time period last night with special “David Blaine: Beyond Magic” at a 3.5/ 6.
Earlier in the evening on ABC, sitcoms “The Middle” (#3: 4.1/ 7) and recently full season-renewed “American Housewife” (#3: 3.6/ 6), combined, outdelivered year-ago time period occupants “The Muppets” and “Fresh Off the Boat,” each with a 2.5/ 4, by an average of 54 percent. But relocated (and over-rated) “Fresh Off the Boat” slipped to a 2.8/ 4 in the 9 p.m. half-hour, followed by sophomore “The Real O’Neals” at a 2.3/ 4 at 9:30 p.m. In other words, ABC has problems on Tuesday outside of the 8 p.m. hour.
As for “The Middle,” am I the only viewer wondering why Axl (Charlie McDermott) and Sue (Eden Sher) are always home when they are supposed to be away at college?
Elsewhere, The CW is solid at 8 p.m. care of its top-rated series, “The Flash,” at a 2.3/ 4. Comparably, “The Flash” bested competing Fox sitcoms “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#5: 1.6/ 3) and “New Girl” (#5: 1.5/ 2), by an average of 48 percent. And both “Scream Queens” on Fox (#4: 1.0/ 2) and recent CW entry “No Tomorrow” (#5: 0.6/ 1) both failed to generate any interest at 9 p.m.

About the Daily Ratings - Please Read if you are new to Ratings
Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.
