I really enjoyed this episode. There were a lot of moving parts, which kept things exciting and interesting. I also loved how they hinted in the past timeline about a lot of future relationships that we’ve heard nothing about yet, such as Harry and Will and Shelby and Leon. It really makes you wonder how they turned out and how that will affect the situation in the present timeline.
At the very start of the episode, we found out exactly what’s been going on since we saw Harry introduce himself to Will a couple of weeks ago. They’ve been hooking up and even though I know it’s not real, I actually think they’re kind of cute together. Harry plays a big role in this episode and it all starts right here with Will. He’s made it his mission to figure out what Alex and Ryan are up to and he’s using Will to get access to Shelby’s phone number. He records a few key phrases that Will says and soon he has the perfect voicemail to lure Shelby into a trap. Although Shelby falls for it and shows up at the recruits field exercise, luckily Alex and Ryan are able to figure his plan out and turn it around on him, resulting in his arrest and hopefully getting him out of their way. However, this whole time Harry has just been too good at everything so it comes as no surprise when we find out that he’s actually an MI6 agent who’s there as part of an “exchange student” program with the CIA. We also find out that he’s the one who bugged Alex’s room, so there’s that mystery solved.
One of the weirder parts of the episode was the start of a Shelby and Leon relationship. I wonder if she’s really into him or just up to something. Also, what about Caleb? I’m not ready to give up on them and I’m still hoping he’ll come back at some point this season. I understand that she misses the danger like Nimah said, but she’s an FBI agent on a mission, so I thought she would have some more professionalism and self-control. Also, I just don’t feel anything between them, it just seems so random. I'm sure they'll explore this relationship more in the coming weeks but right now it just feels a little bit out of place.
Meanwhile, in the present, Alex is on the run. The terrorists know she's around and they’re hunting her down. They cut the power and with their night-vision gear, they find her easily. However, surprisingly, it seems like Alex has an ally within their ranks because one of them actually saves her and stages it to look like they were able to kill Alex. We don’t know who this person is yet but I really hope they have something to do with Miranda’s plan because I refuse to except that she’s turned into one of the bad guys. Unfortunately, Miranda doesn’t do much in this episode to convince me that this is all just a cover and she’s secretly still on the FBI’s side. Every episode she just keeps getting shadier, but I know that’s this show’s style so I'm not giving up hope that there’s a reasonable explanation. By this point, Miranda knows that the hacker, Eric, is dead, so they need a new person to come in and complete the task they had planned for him. She asks Shelby to bring Will in and after Shelby has him do some digging about Miranda’s involvement, he clears her and declares she’s innocent. He seems to come to this conclusion a little too quickly, which immediately made me a bit suspicious. Up until now, he’s been the one always questioning everything so this just seemed too easy. My suspicions were confirmed at the end of the episode when Will called Miranda and let her know that he’s in for whatever she’s up to. Things are really not looking good for some of our favorite characters and each week there are less and less people to trust. This episode was all about the recruits learning how to stage scenes to make them look however they want them to look. I can’t help but think about how this show uses this strategy on us all the time so I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re just staging Miranda to look bad as a parallel to the lessons the CIA is teaching the recruits.
What did you think of this episode? Any theories about what Miranda’s up to? Let me know in the comments and thanks for reading?
