Pitch - Unstoppable Forces & Immovable Objects - Review

This week on Pitch, the game is paused because of the rain. The team decides to hold Kangaroo Court. This leads to an argument between Mike and Ginny. Mike is frustrated that the higher-ups are trying to get rid of him. Ginny’s brother, Will, shows up. Flashbacks reveal that he was there when Ginny just started out in the Majors but that he was a mess so Amelia sent him away. Now, Will wants to start a sports bar with Ginny and Evelyn offers to help. This leads to friction between Amelia and Ginny.

Most awkward relationship: Things were already tense between Will and Amelia this week and I doubt we’ve seen the last of it. If I had to pick a side in this, I’d probably choose Amelia. She’s just trying to protect Ginny in every way she can. That includes financially. Starting a business with someone who has debts is a big risk. Starting a business with a family member who has debts is even riskier. From where I’m standing it looks like Will got himself in trouble and now he hopes that his rich and successful sister will bail him out. I get why Amelia tried to keep all of this from her both this week and in the flashbacks. Ginny’s main focus should be baseball. Getting swept up in her brother’s drama wouldn’t have done her any good. In the flashbacks, she was already in a bad place after her first game didn’t go well. If Will had been added to the mix, she might not have been able to come back the way she did and her career would have been over before it started. I suspect there will soon be a huge argument between Will and Amelia, I’m curious to see who Ginny will side with once she knows all of the facts.

Favorite moment: Even though I’m still on board of the Ginny and Mike ship, I really did enjoy seeing Blip and Mike fend off Omar. Ginny has said several times that she doesn’t date baseball players. Omar acting like a lovesick idiot because he has a crush is the last thing she needs. In any other context this might have come across as them saying who she can and can’t date, but that’s not the case here. They know she already has enough on her mind. If Omar had come to her with his “feelings” she would’ve had to turn him down which would have made things a lot more awkward on the team just when she’s finally found her place.

Grumpiest player: Mike has had a lot on his mind lately. He’s never had to worry about being traded before but now it seems like a real possibility. Now that Duarte’s presence threatens his position on the team, he’s had to start looking at other possibilities. He’s clearly struggling with this decision all the way through the episode. He finally chose Chicago. I’m not sure what attributed to this decision but I can’t help but feel that Ginny had something to do with it.

Missed opportunity: I have missed seeing Sarah Shahi on my screen but there were so many better roles for her to play than Oscar’s girlfriend. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure what the point of her character was in this episode. According to IMDB, she’ll be in the next episode as well. Hopefully, things will become clearer then. However, this is not me complaining. The more Sarah Shahi we get, the better.
Best quotes: Mike: “Man, I’m not giving another speech because everyone’s sick of them.” Blip: “Nobody’s more sick of them than me.”
Mike: “You see that? I even teed up an old man joke for you.” Blip: “I’ve got a good one of you going through menopause but I’ll leave it. It’s too easy.”
Mike: “Did you know that she hums Katy Perry songs when she stretches? And not in key.” Blip: “Is that what she’s been humming when she’s working out? Katy Perry?” Mike: “That’s how off key she is. But if you listen carefully it’s the worst rendition of ‘Firework’ you’ve ever heard.”

That’s it for this week. Check in again in two weeks for an all-new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
