A man is tied up underwater and struggling. This looks like one of my worst nightmares. When he surfaces for air, a drill Sargent pushes him back down. Finally, he’s had enough, he gets out of the water and runs out of the pool area. Looks like this Navy Seal’s time at boot camp is coming to an end.
Uh oh! Looks like his time is up, literally. He's dead due to what looks like a bullet to the head.
Side note, I wouldn’t survive the ANY of the military boot camps, not even for like 30 seconds. My hat is off to everyone who serves our great nation and especially those who are tough enough to make it through the extensive training it takes to become a Navy Seal.
YAY! Danny is back and Pride has cooked up a feast for him and Loretta. According to Loretta and Pride, Danny has been away on a “wilderness adventure,” and he’s now getting ready to head back to college.
Boy oh boy, does Danny have shocking news for them! He said he’s not heading back to college, instead, he wants to join the Navy. He spoke to a recruiter and he really wants to serve. Loretta is not happy. King is saved by an awkward phone call.
The victim, Corey Marchand is Navy Seal candidate in training. Gregorio thinks it looks like a dump job, due to the lack of blood.
Loretta is pissed. She’s taking it out on Gregorio and tells her to back off.
There aren’t any witnesses. How will the team solve this one?
Christopher’s phone is blowing up while they're at the crime scene. He’s ignoring the repeated calls.
Loretta found the victim’s transfer paperwork. He was getting ready to leave the Navy Seal program. Why did he sneak off a day early instead of staying until his last day? And, why did he leave the training facility and come all the way to NOLA?
Yay! Percy is back too!
Per Marchand's friend, he was at the top of his class. He struggled with an exercise where he was tied up and required to complete certain drills underwater. He did not ring the bell though (quit), he just didn’t show back up to training.
Pride and Percy think that Marchand’s drill Sargent is hiding something. I think so too!
Gregorio is giving LaSalle crap about his phone blowing up. They go to talk to Marchand’s bunkmate. They want to know why he went UA. Turns out he tried to pack, but he was stopped. His bunkmate isn’t talking. LaSalle and Gregorio push him harder. He finally admits that his friend struggled with the exercise where he was tied up underwater. He wanted to ring the bell, but Master Chief Charlie wouldn’t let him. He refused to let him leave. He forced him back to the pool and told him that he would pass the test (drown proofing) in the pool or die trying.
Pride and Percy are grilling Master Chief Charlie. They show him the video. He acts like it’s no big deal. Master Chief says that he was just trying to help Marchand. He said that something was haunting that kid. He freaked out when he saw the ropes.
Pride believes Charlie. Percy thinks he’s an instructor gone overboard.
Gregorio, Pride, and Christopher are at HQ. Interesting! Marchand was a great basketball player and was offered a scholarship to play college ball. He turned it down and joined the Navy instead.
LaSalle’s phone is still blowing up. Pride asks if everything is okay. LaSalle says that he’ll handle the situation. I have an idea of who might be on the phone… But I’m not sure… So, I’ll keep it to myself for now.
They need to find out where Marchand went after he left base. Gregorio and LaSalle are following his credit cards. Maybe those will provide his whereabouts before he died.
Loretta and Sebastian are working in the morgue. This must be really difficult for Loretta. Her son just told her that he wants to leave college to join the Navy and here she is, working on a young sailor, whose life was cut way too short by an extreme act of violence.
The victim was in great condition. Sebastian is doing his thing, but Loretta is acting intense and isn’t in the mood.
Marchand died of a single shot to the head. Close range. Loretta points out that he had his whole life ahead of him. Now his life is over.
Pride gets to the root of things. Loretta more or less admits that she doesn’t want Danny to join the Navy. He’s already had a hard life and now she wants him to go to college and be safe. Loretta wants Pride to convince Danny to change his mind.
Pride goes to see Danny. Pride is a good friend to Loretta. Danny says that all he wants to do is serve and that it’s the path that he wants. Danny wants Pride to explain it to Loretta for him. Poor Pride, he’s stuck in the middle.
Marchand made four charges in a short amount of space all in the same area. Gregorio and LaSalle are investigating when LaSalle’s phone blows up again. Gregorio gives him a hard time. Tells him that girl is going to come after LaSalle.
LaSalle admits that it’s a girl he met at Jazz Fest two years ago. They hung out for a few weeks, she went home, and she hasn’t called him until now. Gregorio, who totally cares, quickly acts like she doesn’t and reminds LaSalle that she’s out of there the moment the FBI solves the cartel case. Riggghhhhhhht… Sure you will, Gregorio.
Marchand waited outside City Hall for four hours the day before his murder. Turns out he was waiting for the Mayor. Marchand is seen shouting at the Mayor on film and being pushed away from his security guards. What was he shouting? Did it play a part in Marchand getting killed?
Pride goes to see the Mayor. He looks pissed. He barges into a meeting. The Mayor clears the room. Pride asks how the Mayor knows about Marchand. Turns out he knows him from basketball. The Mayor met him at the Courtside Dinner charity event the year before and gave him his card. Told him, if he ever needed anything to call. Too bad the Mayor didn’t follow up on that, instead, he had his men forcibly remove Marchand from City Hall. What a jerk!
Pride is so over the Mayor. I am too!
Gregorio and LaSalle aren’t able to track Marchand further then the City Hall incident. They are going to go rogue to try and dig at the basketball lead.
Uh oh! Gregorio was right! The woman that has been calling Christopher has tracked his hind parts down/ran into him on the street. LaSalle apologizes for being rude. The girl tries to kiss him and LaSalle backs off. He says that people change. She says that she drove all the way from Charleston and that she wants to show him something… I BET IT’S A KID! It IS a kid! Oh snap! He says, “You’re a mom now.” And she responds with, “And you’re a dad.” Cue the NOLA music.
Percy has followed the Mayor’s movements. He went from City Hall to the Courtside Dinner, which is a charity event (same one he met Marchand at a year ago), and then he went straight home. Nothing fishy. Gregorio says he’s on to something interesting. Ooh! Last year Marchand started a fight at the dinner and broke his coach’s jaw! Dannnnng! There’s no sign of a police report. Marchand doesn’t have a record.
Gregorio and Percy notice LaSalle is practically in shock. I’m surprised Percy didn’t stop to see what was wrong, she just tells him to fill her in later. He tells Gregorio he wants to focus on the case and not talk about it. Who wants to bet he spills to Gregorio first?
Meanwhile, Sebastian is talking about sauce. He found shrimp with “special sauce” from Fox’s Restaurant, in Marchand’s stomach contents. Guess what? That is the same restaurant which hosts the dinner for the basketball charity event.
The restaurant owner can’t believe Marchand is dead. He blows off the fight between Marchand and the Coach from the year before, said, “boys will be boys.”
Looks like the bus boy knows something. He admits that Marchand came in to the restaurant, ate, shot the breeze, then left. He acts like he doesn’t know anything else. He also won’t admit why Marchand hit the coach the year before. He excuses himself, says that he needs to get back to work. All roads lead back to the basketball coach.
Uh oh! LaSalle and Gregorio went to follow up on the coach and guess what? Someone already found him and shot him in the head.
Marchand’s missing cell is at the coach’s house. So, Marchand was most likely there before he was murdered in the exact same way as the coach. Pride wants to know what the secret is that was worth killing for twice. Gregorio thinks she knows what happened. She thinks Marchand was abused by his coach.
More evidence. Marchand texted his coach and threatened to expose his secrets.
Marchand has wrist burns and is covering up his wrists in another picture. The bus boy at the restaurant had the same thing. This could be the reason Marchand freaked out at the Navy Seal training exercise. Poor, Marchand.
Loretta found scars on Marchand’s wrists. A history of being bound. Loretta also has some interesting news, Marchand was killed before the basketball coach was killed. Therefore, Marchand couldn’t have killed his coach.
Eek, Pride says that he didn’t try to convince Danny not to join the Navy. Loretta is pissed, but when Pride tells her that Danny is having a hard time talking to her, because like mother like son, she softens up a bit and starts to understand.
You know what, I want to point out that the writers have done a FANTASTIC job with this storyline. I love that they refer to Danny strictly as Loretta’s son. He is part of the family and even though he only recently joined Loretta’s family, he is just that now, family. Good job, writers! You rock!
LaSalle and Gregorio are back at HQ and receive Coach Bud Erens’ personnel file. No red flags and he also doesn’t have a criminal record. Percy to the rescue. A contact at Special Victims has record of a report from a parent a few years back. Allegations of sexual abuse. Parent claims that he wasn’t he only one. The DA squashed the investigation and the family who made the report moved out of state. Why would the DA squash the investigation? That seems insane!
This happened five years ago, before Coach Erens’ was in charge of the program? Interesting!
Sebastian has a lead on the weapon used to murder both victims. It belongs to Mason, the bus boy at the Foxes’ Restaurant.
The team goes to pick up Mason. He freaks out and picks up a knife. Percy has her gun up and we cut to a commercial.
Aw, it’s the local car commercial with the guy and his dog, Jack, who is wearing a tie! This commercial is everything. Do you have any favorite commercials? Leave a comment with them below or post a link!
Back to the show. Pride is talking to Mason. He is so calm. I love Pride. Mason is holding the knife to his throat. He says that he was told, “nobody would believe him.” He says that he did not kill Marchand.
Foxes’ Restaurant owner is looking suspicious.
Oh snap! Mason says that it was Mr. Fox, owner of the restaurant.
Mr. Fox is conveniently trying to get away. Percy, LaSalle, and Gregorio apprehend him and the murder weapon before he can get away. Gregorio picked it up with her bare hand. Mistake? Where are her gloves?
Pride is talking to the Mayor. The Mayor can’t believe Mr. Fox had anything to do with the murder, abuse, and abuse cover up. Pride says that people said the same thing about Sandusky. Pride accuses the Mayor of knowing about the abuse. The Mayor said he heard rumors, but didn’t believe them. Pride is so angry and disappointed with the Mayor right now. Marchand didn’t have to die. If he would have just listened to him, it would have helped.
Melody, the alleged mother of LaSalle’s baby, is back. She meets Gregorio and she has the baby. OH! DANG! She tells Gregorio that the baby’s name is Tucker and that he’s LaSalle’s son! Gregorio is shocked. Christopher is too, but manages a smile.
Pride shows up to Loretta’s with Danny. Pride says that he isn’t on anyone’s side. He wants Danny to, “speak his truth,” to Loretta. Danny says that he just wants to make Loretta proud. Aw!
The show ends with Loretta hugging Danny.
*******
My Thoughts:
Aw! That was a sweet ending!
This episode was great! I touched on very serious issues and in my opinion, handled them very well.
Gregorio’s character calmed down a bit too. Nothing in his episode hit a nerve. Good job to both the actress and the writers!
Also, talk about a twist with Melody coming back into LaSalle’s life with a baby. Do you think it’s his? I’m not sure at this point.
Next week’s episode looks awesome! Biker gang episodes tend to be some of my favorite on any show. Ooh! Percy goes undercover and they show her making out with someone! Wonder if LaSalle will get jealous?
