Ash Vs. Evil Dead - Confinement - Review: "Say Hi to Baal Y’all!”

I think I should apologize for the title, but I couldn't help it. Pablo’s vision definitely let Baal escape into the world. For some reason he headed to the bar where Ash threw his party. After the misunderstanding about Ashy Slashy luring everyone there to kill them, the place is a mess.

The first thing we learn is that Ruby’s description about Baal’s seductive capabilities was pretty accurate. The Deputy Baal finds in the men’s room drops her gun and steps right in for a make-out session.

Baal’s not looking to get his happy on though. He needs a meat suit to wear so he can operate under cover. Somehow, and to be honest I wasn’t really worried about how, Baal knew the action would be down at the Sheriff’s office.

Ash is hauled in for killing Amber, the Deadite that was about to kill his father; convenient because it puts the knife that can kill Baal close to hand. When the gang shows up to bail him out, Ash lets them know that bad JuJu is afoot.

I loved Kelly’s greeting to the Sheriff and that Linda didn’t miss the fact that something was going on between them. One of the things I was missing last week was the character stories. By bringing the Sheriff and his family into play, I got that element back and I was very happy.

Ruby is not the diplomat of the team. (I think we’d all agree that that’s Pablo. Linda’s daughter, Lacey, noticed Pablo. She referred to him as the “one man brave enough to defeat” the evil car.) She grabs the Sheriff’s gun and takes control.

Ruby demands that all prisoners be brought up to the main room so they can keep an eye on each other. The problem is she sends a Deputy back to cells to let the prisoners out. The deputy goes alone. Yeah. No way that ends well.

Ruby shoots the Sheriff in the leg before handing guard duty over to Kelly and goes to find the Kandarian Dagger. Between the pain in his leg and Baal’s influence the Sheriff lets his jerk out. By the time all is said and done, Linda’s ready to walk away and Ash has a chance to win her back.

Ruby finds the deputy she sent off by herself, cowering in the outer area of the evidence locker. Of course the woman who went off by herself is the woman Baal is wearing.

We finally discover Ruby’s secret. She’s mortal now. She’s also very susceptible to Baal’s charms. Baal gets the dagger without too much effort. He then sends the skinless deputy to give him a little cover for his escape by grabbing Linda and sticking her in one of the cells.

I loved the Sheriff’s reaction to the skinless deputy turning on him. He screams and takes off in the other direction. Ash took complete advantage of the moment and was about to get his groove going with Linda when Pablo started screaming.

Meanwhile Pablo has a problem. Something is inside him and it wants out. Pablo’s first thought is that, that something is Baal. It’s not. It is, according to Ruby, the only thing that can save them now. The question is can Pablo survive the process? We can’t lose Pablo! Not “Pablo the Mexican.”

I enjoyed this episode quite a bit. Having the Sheriff, Linda, and Ash in the same room gave me the added dimension to the story that I was missing last week. Skinless Deputy was far creepier than the Deadites ever were. I though Ash was kind of sweet in his attempt to get back into Linda’s good graces. I’m looking forward to seeing how that advances.
