The Last Sunday Funday
Gretchen realize in the middle of brunch that everyone's doing Sunday Funday and decides it's way too mainstream for them, Lindsay complains that this is the only time she can be away from Paul and Gretchen cuts her off saying she can either truly be with Paul or dump him, but she has to stop complaining about it. Lindsay calls her a bad friend but Gretchen ignores her and tells the she needs something fun for her depression and Jimmy for his dad's death, so she pities everyone into looking for a secret bar, a Speakeasy, to replace Sunday Funday, though they can keep calling it like that and doing everything drunk.
Reluctantly, Jimmy ends up finding almost every clue, the first one is on a website that gives them a code from the Dewey Decimal system, so they go to the library where the next clue is a picture with a music sheet. So they go to see Sam and the boys in a very funny scene where Sam gives Edgar a device for smoking weed and figures out the code, which takes then to a foot clinic where there's a clue in a close by payphone. Once they mark a specific number it gives them a key they use to open a suitcase with photos of them inside and a map of the railway system on the back. Until then, Lindsay had been mentioning Paul and Gretchen had told her if she kept at it he would show up, so when Lindsay is about to say Paul knows about the railway system, Gretchen is already calling him.
Gretchen: Beetlejuice, bitch!
They meet Paul in Chinatown, which is the spot the map was pointing to, and while they're on the lookout for the next clue, Lindsay and Edgar talk. She tells him she doesn't know what to do about Paul: "I have to Gone Girl myself and start over where nobody knows me". But Edgar tells her, maybe before doing something drastic, she just has to do what frightens her the most, and she decides she will tell Paul what she needs from the marriage to be happy. In the meantime, firecrackers have been going off behind Edgar and he didn't even flinch, since he's quite high, so he decides to do what scares him the most and goes to buy some fireworks. Then, he makes the guys light them up and throw them at him in a very trippy scene filled with smoke and colors.
Once this "test" is over, they find a code in an abandoned van that takes them to a nearby house, they knock on the door and find a Hispanic family happily watching TV so they back off. Outside, Gretchen and Lindsay start fighting and pushing each other, while Jimmy tries to decipher the last clue, until he decides that family looked way to happy and convinces them they are actors. So the five of them break-in, they start trying to find a hidden door while the family screams in horror and calls the cops.
They end up in a jail cell, where Paul realizes he can hold it no longer and decides to use the toilet. In the meantime, Gretchen tells Lindsay she's sorry, that no matter how boring it gets, it's her duty to listen, and Lindsay admits maybe she wants her husband to disappear sometimes. In that moment they realize he's gone, Lindsay starts wishing for money but Jimmy figures out the toilet is in a rotary panel and they finally get to the secret door, with Paul pulling up his pants.
Jimmy and Gretchen agree the speakeasy is actually kind of lame, but he says he found it for her and they realize they wanted each other to be happy. Lindsay, on the other hand, decides to be honest and tells Paul she wants to be with other guys, and that maybe he can watch, he's horrified but he consents anyways, because he wants her to be happy. While Jimmy sings a romantic song dedicated to Gretchen, she realize this will be the last Sunday Funday, since they have all moved on from their old selves in a way.
Overall, this episode was a lot of fun, especially the break-in scene. It also moved some of the stories along, as Edgar realizes pot can be a temporary fix for his problems (high Edgar is so funny), Lindsay finally recognizes she need more than Paul to be happy (hopefully this will take them to split for good soon), and Jimmy and Gretchen are established as an almost "normal" in-love couple.
