House creator David Shore is returning to the medical drama arena with another show about a brilliant doctor with questionable bedside manners. Understandably, the project, titled The Good Doctor, got the the broadcast networks’ attention, with multiple pursuing. In the end, the drama, based on a South Korean format and executive produced by Hawaii Five-0 co-star Daniel Dae Kim, has landed at ABC with a put pilot commitment. Sony Pictures TV, where Shore and his Shore Z banner are under an overall deal, is the studio.
Written by Shore, The Good Doctor centers on a young surgeon with Savant Syndrome who is recruited into the pediatric surgical unit of a prestigious hospital. The question will arise – can a person who doesn’t have the ability to relate to people actually save their lives?
Shore executive produces alongside Daniel Dae Kim, Sebastian Lee & David Kim. Shore Z’s Erin Gunn co-executive produces.
