    Ratings Breakdown:
ABC inched past NBC for overnight household dominance on this sixth Monday of the new television season, but the home of “The Voice,” of course, owns the night in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics). But the bigger news was the CBS 8-9 p.m. comedies, with “Kevin Can Wait” moving into the 8 p.m. half-hour with a respectable 5.2 rating/8 share in the household overnights, which was on par with the 5.3/ 8 one week earlier out of “The Big Bang Theory.” That 5.3 overnight household rating translated into 8.54 million viewers and a 2.1 rating/7 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. And this means that “Kevin Can Wait” can stand on its own without the lead-in support from “The Big Bang Theory.” Thumbs up, Kevin James!

Next on CBS was the series-premiere of Matt LeBlanc comedy “Man with a Plan” at a third-place 4.9/ 7 in households at 8:30 p.m. While you could argue that this highly promoted new sitcom entry should have had more sampling, the 94 percent overnight retention out of “Kevin Can Wait” makes “Man with a Plan” a potentially compatible fit. Let’s see what happens next week.

The problem on CBS, however, is tired “2 Broke Girls,” which slipped to a 3.8/ 6 (#3) at 9 p.m., 22 percent below “Man with a Plan.” And that led into a 3.2/ 5 (#3) for “The Odd Couple,” at 9:30 p.m., which is well below overnight levels from Thursday (out of “The Big Bang Theory”) last season.

Capping off CBS was relocated “Scorpion,” which built by 46 percent out of “”The Odd Couple” with a first-place 4.7/ 8 in the 10 p.m. hour. Comparably, “Scorpion” outdelivered competing dramas “Timeless” on NBC (#2: series low 3.5/ 6) and “Conviction” on ABC (#3: 3.4/ 6) by 34 percent and 38 percent, respectively. While “Conviction” actually increased by six percent from the 3.2/ 6 one week earlier, it was still only close to year-ago levels for an encore telecast of “Castle.”

Earlier in the evening, “Dancing With the Stars” led the 8-10 p.m. block in the household overnights, followed by a 7.2/11 for “The Voice.”

Elsewhere, Fox cannot compete with its combination of dramas “Gotham” and “Lucifer” each at a fourth-place 2.5/ 4. But a 2.0/ 3 (#5) for “Supergirl” on The CW at 8 p.m. remains a marked improvement from the 0.6/ 1 on the year-ago evening for “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” Unfortunately, The CW’s relocated “Jane the Virgin” slipped to only a 0.8/ 1 from 9-10 p.m.

Here is the half-hour breakdown for Monday, October 24:

ABC – “Dancing With the Stars”: 7.5/12 (#1)
CBS – “Kevin Can Wait” (time period premiere): 5.2/ 8 (#3)
