This week on Pitch we find out more about Ginny’s relationship with her mother. They’ve had a pretty difficult relationship after Ginny saw her mother with another man as a child but takes the first step towards reconciliation at the end of the episode. Mike tries to figure out what he’ll do after his baseball career ends and tries his hand at sports commentating. After a rough start, he does seem to get the hang of it. Oscar flies to The Netherlands to sign a player, who seems to have issues with Mike, and ends up winning him over with a doll head. Blip and Evelyn argue when Blip gets picked to be on the All-Star team right in the middle of their family vacation, but he later makes it up to her.
Biggest idiot: In a previous review, I’ve said that Blip is so lucky to have Evelyn and he better not do anything to screw it up. Well, it certainly didn’t take long. I’m glad he at least saw that he screwed up and that she called him on it. Of course, she was upset. It was probably one of the first vacations they’d been able to take in a very long time. She’s been by his side the whole way but everyone needs a break sometimes. I’m glad he apologized and made the effort to fly back to Florida. I hope keeps what she said in mind in the future.
Most relatable: I’m glad we got to see what Ginny’s relationship with her mother was like. As I imagined, not great. It can’t have been easy for Janet, she must have felt left out when Ginny was growing up. I’m assuming her relationship with Will was better but we didn’t get to see any of that. I doubt Ginny ever told anyone what saw. She probably just bottled up her anger and pushed her mother away. I’m surprised she didn’t confront her in the present day but I assume she just wants to move past it. She only has one parent left and probably no longer has it in her to push her away. I hope we get to see their relationship improve in the future.
Favorite moment: Al is turning into a real scene stealer for me. His pep talk to Ginny was my favorite moment this week. He’s absolutely right. Yes, they probably gave her the spot on the All-Star team because of all the media attention she’s been getting lately instead of for her skills. But is that any reason to throw away an opportunity like this? She might as well take advantage of it or she’ll end up regretting it later. People say she doesn’t deserve that spot? Take the spot and prove them wrong!
Al: “Take the pity date. It doesn’t matter why they say yes. It matters what you do after they say it.”
Blip: “Biggest moment of my life: June 6th, 2007. I was playing on the USC baseball team. I bought a bacon burger from a sassy freshman at the concession stand. I wasn’t even hungry. I just bought it because I wanted to talk to the prettiest girl I’d ever seen.”
Mike: “Hear that?” Ginny: “Hear what?” Mike: “Your homerun just landed in Long Beach.”
