Notorious - Tell Me a Secret - Review: "Tell It Like It Is"

"Tell me a Secret" was not a good Notorious outing and once again we saw the side story out stage the season-long murder mystery arc still ahead of us. Written by Terrence Coli and directed by Michael Engler Notorious' fifth outing was still very well paced, quite dynamic and entertaining, but disappointed with some convenient and predictable writing.

After the initial reservations I had towards Daniel Sunjata in this role, he is turning into the MVP week after week. The way he cares and fights for his clients is really compelling and keeps me invested into the show. This week's case came really close to home for Jake as Dax Edwards, the son of Jake's high school math tutor was accused of killing a college football player. The case involved a very dirty gossip app called Tell me a secret, which was a fine mockery of today's society and a dirtbag Coach looking for some glory in the darkest hour.

The story built up was intriguing as Dax was quite introverted and looked totally guilty, but the introduction of the coach who "Tells it like it is" made this an entertaining piece of TV. The Coach trying to get some buzz out of the murder case was despicable and Louis dragging him around in his second LHL appearance charmed a smile on my face. The Coach is an old fashioned guy who thought that all of the freshmen needed to toughen up and that hazing and bullying is the way to go. The show really brings up these important topics but runs over them way too fast to make a lasting impression.

But I was more entertained with the way the hazing came to light, mostly cause it involved Ella and Ryan. The chemistry between Aimee Teegarden's Ella and Ryan Guzman's Ryan is off the charts. They really complement each other's opposite personalities and their simple basic judgment free interactions are really refreshing. Ella used #TellMeAsecret to release a false rumor and catch the football players that hazed and bullied the victim prior to his death. Later Ella opened up to Ryan about her past and how she is living in a motel, this led up to a naughty hookup, with many others to hopefully follow.

The case was closed after Julia asked her cheating ex-fiance Eric (played by Marc Blucas) for a court order to find out who sent in the initial clue on Tell me a secret. I wasn't really surprised it was the Dax's best friend, the writers didn't introduce any other suspects and he was the only one that wasn't paraded in front of us as a suspect. Still, I did enjoy the case much more than the revelations in Sarah Keaton's murder case.

There wasn't a real revelation presented in the actual murder case, but one very red red herring was taken out of consideration. Yes our dear Levi, played by Ramon de Ocampo, committed suicide in front of Julia. It was a dramatic scene but so predictable, the moment Julia entered Levi's home I knew his screen time was counted. The setup was pretty bad as well, last week's announced big interview with Oscar on LHL was underwhelming and rushed through, the follow up with him buying a gun and being harassed by paparazzi all indicated that Levi wasn't there to stay. Not to mention the cliche of turning the best friend into a love sick puppy killing himself because of unreturned love. I really hope they step up their game in with their next few outings, hopefully tying up all the loose ends.

Today on Louise's Shenanigans: Louise was a good friend and her being there for Julia was really adorable. Her taking Julia out for a dinner so they would set Julia's pics with the ex-fiance on fire was a sweet moment. After last week's fallout, it was nice to see that Julia and Louise are more than just colleagues and I do enjoy a decent burning shit scene every once in a while, gotta love those flames.

What did you think about "Tell me a Secret"? Did you enjoy it as much as previous outings or was it too predictable for you as well? Leave a comment down under and let the community know what your thoughts are on last Thursdays episode.
