In what is sure to be a treat for Deadpool fans, the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2016 Ryan Reynolds smash is being pushed up two weeks, from June 1 to May 18.

The move put the action comedy against Sony's Slender Man, but more importantly, has it opening one week before Disney's Solo: A Star Wars Story. It’s a strategic play as even second weeks have been exceptionally strong for Star Wars movies. (The Last Jedi earned a big $71.5 million in its second weekend in December.)

Few details have been confirmed, but witnesses told CTV News the crew was filming a stunt sequence involving a motorcycle at Jack Poole Plaza when something went wrong.

The stunt person appears to have lost control of the vehicle, which drove off set and through the window of Shaw Tower across the street.

She was loaded into an Advanced Life Support ambulance, which remained at the scene for about 45 minutes before driving off without its lights or sirens activated.

Police said investigators from WorkSafeBC have been called to the scene of the accident.

12th April 2017 - Josh Brolin Cast as Cable

Josh Brolin has nabbed the hotly contested role of Cable opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The production has been on the warpath to find the right actor for the role for months, with Michael Shannon almost nabbing the role and Stranger Things star David Harbour on the shortlist. (There were even rumors of conversations with Russell Crowe and Brad Pitt.)

In the end, Brolin emerged as a surprise contender, notching his second Marvel Comics character in the process; the actor plays the villain Thanos in the Marvel Studios movies. Sources say Brolin's deal is for four movies.

Cable, was co-created by Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld and writer Louise Simonson, and is described as in many ways being the opposite of Deadpool: a man who is a leader and used to being obeyed, who is very controlled but with an aura of simmering violence. In the comics, Cable was from the future and was the adult of Scott Summers, also known as the X-Man Cyclops.

The character Shannon would potentially play, Cable, was co-created by Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld and writer Louise Simonson, and is described as in many ways being the opposite of Deadpool: a man who is a leader and used to being obeyed, who is very controlled but with an aura of simmering violence. In the comics, Cable was from the future and was the adult of Scott Summers, also known as the X-Man Cyclops.

  • 18th November 2016 - David Leitch to Direct; FOX Searching for New Director for Deadpool 3
David Leitch better get an appetite for chimichangas.

Leitch, one half of the directing and stunt team behind the John Wick movies, has closed a deal to direct Fox’s Deadpool 2.

The development occurs just weeks after Fox lost Tim Miller as the director to the X-Men spin-off sequel. Miller, who was an integral part of the first movie, which opened in February this year, exited the project over "creative differences" with star Ryan Reynolds.

At the same time, Fox and the producers are also putting into motion Deadpool 3 and will be searching for a separate filmmaker to tackle that installment.

  • 22nd October 2016 - Director, Tim Miller Exits Over Creative Differences
Tim Miller, who directed Deadpool and had a hand in giving Fox its biggest hit of the year, will not direct Deadpool 2.

The director has parted ways with the studio over what insiders say are creative differences with Ryan Reynolds, the actor who plays the Marvel character.

Deadpool made $786 million worldwide when it opened on Valentine’s Day this year, launching a new franchise for the studio. The movie re-energized the career of Reynolds but it also began a second act for Miller, a visual effects specialist who founded Blur Studios and made a name for himself making video game trailers and opening credits.

By all accounts, success of the movie was truly shared by Reynolds, who helped define the voice to the characters, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and Miller. In fact, Miller is believed to be the one who leaked Deadpool test footage into the wilds of the Internet, with the ensuing enthusiastic reaction just what was needed to ensure that Fox, which was waffling whether or not to make the movie, gave it the green light.

Even before the movie’s opening, the gang was back together plotting the sequel. Deadpool 2 is in the casting stages and is in the middle of testing six actresses for the part of Domino, the project’s new female lead.

Sources say Reynolds and Miller had increasingly butted heads over certain creative issues. Reynolds was a producer on the original, along with Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner, but sources say his clout has increased exponentially on the sequel.

  • 20th October 2016 - Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lizzy Caplan, Mackenzie Davis and More Testing for Domino
[Update: We’ve now learned from trusted sources four more actresses who are testing for the role of Domino in Deadpool 2, in addition to the six we reported previously: Mackenzie Davis (Halt and Catch Fire), Ruby Rose (Orange Is the New Black), Eve Hewson (The Knick), and Kelly Rohrbach (Baywatch). Our original story follows below.]

While the sequel doesn’t yet have a firm release date, development is moving right along on Deadpool 2, and director Tim Miller and the film’s producers are now looking towards casting a key female role. Sources close to the production exclusively tell Collider that testing has begun for the character of Domino, and the actresses under consideration include Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane), Sienna Miller (American Sniper), Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond), Stephanie Sigman (Spectre), and Sylvia Hoeks (Overspel). There could be other actresses included in the mix, but sources tell us that at least these six performers have tested or are going to test for the role.

Like Deadpool, Domino is a mercenary and a mutant, and her powers include the ability to initiate random telekinetic acts that turn probability in her favor. Additionally, she has a close connection to the mutant Cable, as her comics history found her becoming a partner, confidante, and lover of the mutant and frequent frenemy of Deadpool. It was previously confirmed during the post-credits sequence for Deadpool that Cable will appear in Deadpool 2, so the inclusion of Domino in the sequel as well makes sense.

This shortlist is a mix of established actresses and up-and-comers. Folks like Winstead, Caplan, and Miller have long resumes and at least some experience with action, while Sigman portrayed a Bond girl in Spectre, starred on the FX drama series The Bridge, and stars on the Netflix series Narcos. Netherlands native Hoeks, meanwhile, is poised to make her major American debut in Denis Villeneuve’s sequel Blade Runner 2049.

  • 14th April 2016 - Sequel in Development
“Deadpool 2” is in the works, with star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller returning to the fold, Fox co-chairman Stacey Snider said at CinemaCon on Thursday.

Fox said that the entire creative team behind the superhero blockbuster will be back, with original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick handling script duties. As soon as “Deadpool” started smashing records, a sequel was something of a foregone conclusion. The first film grossed $757.3 million globally, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film on a worldwide basis. It also helped reinvigorate Reynolds’ career. His star had hit a low point, diminished by flops such as “RIPD” and “Green Lantern.”
