In today’s episode, we see MacGyver is chasing a Ghost from his past. One that killed his Mentor in Afghanistan and is now wanting to blow up the UN.
It was nice to see more of Mac’s past this episode. A lot of flashbacks and stories made the story come alive. I liked the emotion in the episode and how they used it so the viewers understood Mac more. Jack was an interesting character this episode. The last 10-15 minutes, in particular, was the best of the episode. Jack stood on a weight-triggered bomb, meaning if he moves, he goes boom! (along with the van and everyone surrounding it). George Eads really plays Jack well in this scene. You could see the fear of dying in his eyes and he even brought the humor in a life or death situation. Jack was afraid, but he knew he couldn’t show it as he has always been ‘the muscle’ of the group and he's always been the strong one.
The last scene really moved along MacGyvers character for me, personally. He visited his old mentor’s family and told his daughter all about her father, as well as fixing her fairy toy.
It was a good plot, the story was spread out evenly and overall it was a good episode. However, I am still bewildered as to what Thornton was doing through that episode. She didn’t bring anything to the story, apart from teaching Riley combat skills and a joke at the end. Bozer is another character that didn’t need to be in this. It is nice that he brings out the normality of their life but the writers need to do something with his character.
