The closing moments of the episode included a flash forward that seemed to reveal Wes making an immunity deal with the D.A. to be the star witness against Annalise. How will Annalise feel if she finds out?

“Devastated,” Davis tells EW. “By the time you get to episode 9, she feels a total sense of abandonment and aloneness, which is what spurs her drinking again. So yes, she would feel totally devastated. She wants love, but she has no idea how to keep it in her life. She’s a self-saboteur.”

The series will focus more on how Annalise handles this particular turn after the winter hiatus. “That’s one of the things we’re going to deal with in the back half of the season,” executive producer Pete Nowalk says. “Say what you want to say about Annalise, but she’s been betrayed specifically by guys over and over again, and she’s put her neck out on the line for Wes — he shot her, she forgave him; he killed her husband, she forgave him. She would be devastated by that to her core, to the point that she would question what she is even doing with her life.”
