Blue Bloods aired its second episode of season seven this week, and it dealt with some sad, but realistic topics in today's world. "Good Cop Bad Cop" focused on Erin and Danny, but all the Reagans had some screen time in this episode.
In "Good Cop Bad Cop" Danny and Baez investigate the murder of Sally Jeffries, a sweet lady that seemed to not have any enemies. At first the detectives are confused about the cause of death because there wasn't a gun at the scene and the front door was bolted shut. After debating theories, Danny discovers the bullet went through the window. He sees a suspicious kid looking through the window and chases after him, but he gets away from Danny.
Danny does interrogate the kid, whose name is Terrell Spaulding. Terrell has a gang tattoo on his arm, but that's about all the information Danny gets. Terrell is uncooperative and asks for a lawyer. The detectives have to let him go. But that's not the end of this investigation as there is a witness. The witness is reluctant to give out too much information because he lives in that neighborhood, but he did say in his statement that he saw two different gangs fighting in front of Mrs. Jeffries' apartment. He also heard a gunshot. This is enough for Danny, and he pays Terrell another visit.
The detectives go to the street and question Roxie Barnes, Terrell's "boss". Roxie was extremely unpleasant (I'm sensing a theme here) and doesn't answer any questions. The viewers then get to meet Roxie's attorney who they call "Fat Boy". These people are lovely.
While in the midst of the investigation, Danny has to have a chat with his son about skipping school. It turns out Danny is more concerned about his son's partying and drinking than anything else. He's also furious that there's a video of his son drinking online. His son says the videos disappear after 48 hours. Although Danny is furious (and takes his phone away from his son), this gives him an idea. He and Baez go through videos and find one of Roxie yelling and firing her gun. Danny and Baez go and tell Terrell they have a warrant because of the video they found. As they are walking with Terrell a black SUV drives by and starts shooting. Terrell says the shooter was Roxie.
Danny and Baez visit "Fat Boy" and inform him that Roxie is wanted for the attempted murder of Terrell. They spot blood on the front stairs, and Danny barges into the house. It turns out that Roxie was grazed by one of Baez's bullets and was hiding out. Danny and Baez are able to arrest her, and this story comes to an end.
Before I move on to the other stories this week, I want to say that I'm glad Blue Bloods talked about social media even if it was brief. Danny was right- a college recruiter or someone else with power could have seen his son's video. Things online never really go away, and a split second decision can ruin someone's life. I'm glad Danny took his son's phone away from him. He's trying to help his son, not punish him.
Danny was very busy this week, but so was Erin. Anthony, Erin's partner, discovers that his mom lost everything she had in the bank. A grand total of 30,000. Anthony's mom has Alzheimer's, and a con-artist named Frankie Reed tricked her into writing checks to her. Anthony gets into trouble himself as he tracks down Frankie and attacks him at a local diner. Jamie calls Erin, and luckily she is able to help Anthony with his problems.
Erin and Anthony get nowhere with the bank. The CEO tells them that Anthony's mom was the sole person listed on the account, and there wasn't really anything they could do. Erin later tells Anthony that they just have to prove Frankie was aware of Anthony's mother's condition, and then they can get the money back. They enlist Henry to help, and he has lunch with Frankie. Henry tries to trick Frankie by pretending to have Alzheimer's. This is working, but as Henry and Frankie prepare to leave to go to the bank, one of Henry's old friends shows up and blows his cover.
Anthony is devastated, but is still hopeful that someday they can get his mother's money back. But don't worry- Henry comes through for them. It turns out that he is close friends with the CEO of the bank, and he was able to get a check for $30,000. I'm really happy that this story had a happy ending, but so many real life scams don't. People who scam money out of the elderly are cruel and twisted. I'm glad that Blue Bloods touched on an issue that happens every day.
Frank also had his share of problems this week. At the beginning of the episode, Frank stops and reprimands an officer for smoking and texting on the job. Officer Clark throws the cigarette butt on the ground, and Frank writes him a summons. Officer Clark then creates a caricature of Frank that says "Nanny on the Loose." I thought it was funny, and I agreed with Frank's co-workers and family that he was being hard on the officer. But then I saw Frank's perspective, too. He said cops have to be extra careful these days and can't walk around with their heads down looking at their phones. Even though I still think he was being hard on the officer, I understand where he was coming from. I love that the Reagans always debate the issues, and we get to see all sides and views.
