Update: New Co-Showrunner Announced

Lee Daniels' upcoming music drama Star has found a new showrunner.

Chuck Pratt (Desperate Housewives, The Young and the Restless) has come onboard the Fox midseason series as an executive producer, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Pratt replaces original showrunner Charles Murray, who recently departed Star because his vision for the series differed from that of Daniels and co-creator Tom Donaghy. Sources say the split was amicable.

Benjamin Bratt and Queen Latifah headline the series, which is set to launch during Empire's holiday hiatus. Pratt's hiring comes as Star prepares to go into production later this month.

Lee Daniels’ Empire follow-up is on the hunt for a new behind-the-scenes Star.

Producer-writer Charles Murray (Sons of Anarchy) has stepped down as co-showrunner of Fox’s latest musical-themed drama, which is slated to bow at midseason. A source close to the show tells TVLine that Murray and Daniels had different visions for Star, which led to an amicable parting of the ways. The search is on for a new co-showrunner to work alongside existing co-showrunner Tom Donaghy (who created Star with Daniels).
